Mr Happy and Little Miss Giggles Teach Mr Mean How To Be Kind
Mr Happy is happy because he does kind things for other people. Mr Mean is unhappy because all he does is mean things to other people. Mr Happy thinks he knows how to make Mr Mean make better decisions - decisions that will make him happier - and he enlists Little Miss Giggles to help. Together they spend the day with Mr Mean to help him see the benefits of being kind but can they really persuade him to change his behaviour … ? Roger Hargreaves and Elizabeth’s Kilbey picture book (part of the DISCOVER MORE ABOUT YOU SERIES) uses the MR MEN AND LITTLE MISS trade mark silly humour to explore what it means to be kind and why it’s important to be kind, both for yourself and for other people. It’s a lot of fun and there’s advice for parents, care givers and teachers at the end with suggestions on how to read the book with young readers. Mr Mean and Mr Happy take centre stage in this book to explore how being kind can make you happier as well as help (and therefore make happier) those around you. I would have liked Little Miss Giggles to have done a bit more in terms of helping Mr Mean to discover the benefits of being kind as she is a bit of a tag-a-long but this didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the book. I did enjoy the displays of other Mr Men and Little Miss being kind almost as much as I enjoyed how it shows that some of them can be very unkind and self-interested, e.g. Little Miss Stubborn. There are some genuinely fun moments and if you’re a parent, care-giver or teacher then there’s a section at the back that gives you advice on how to help young readers read it, which I think is a nice touch. All In all, I think this is a good way of introducing young readers to dealing with emotions and how to behave around others by combining humour with a serious message that doesn’t cross over into being preachy. As such, I’d definitely check out other books in this series.

All you expect from a Mr Men/Little Miss book with added emphasis on kindness
My daughter is obsessed by the Mr Men Little Miss books, and I love reading them to her. They're always written in such a way it makes it fun for adults and children alike! This book is written in the traditional manner, as if the narrator is taking directly to the listener. The illustrations sum up the story perfectly and allow young readers to recall the story even when they can't read. The be kind book is one of four new books designed to help young listeners develop their feelings and emotions. The kindness theme is apparent throughout the book, and describes charachers being kind, or not so kind in the exact same way as I do with my two year old 'That was very kind wasn't it' type language. Really reinforcing the message in a positive manner. The book is labelled on the back at retail price of £4.99 for the paperback. At time of writing this book is on sale for £3.74. For this price for a fun book any Mr Men/Little Miss fan would love that is written with a specific, positive message, I don't think you can argue this is exceptional value. I would pay up to the recommended £4.99 for this book in a heartbeat.

Simple story with a good message
This is quite a small book and printed on matt paper. It is all about Mr Happy and Little Miss Giggles teaching Mr Mean how to be kind. The imagery is bright and colourful and it is a simple story that has a really good message, to try and be kind to others. The images are bright and colourful while the language is simplistic yet not condescending, We all need a bit of kindness in our lives and I think this book gives toddlers a real understanding of kindness through the characters. I think it is much more powerful using Mr Men and Little Miss characters than it ever could be with human ones. It has a wholesome feeling behind it, it's a story grounded in idealism and I think a good introduction to feelings and helping children start to think about others and be aware of other peoples feelings. I hope my daughter learns how to be kind reading it with me, it's a feel good message full of heart.

Mr Men tackle mental health
This book is part of a new Mr Men series touching on mental health. Many of the new Mr Men books are written by Roger Hargreaves' son, Adam. Some are a bit poor, in my opinion, but this one does not have his name on, and it seems much closer to the original Hargreaves books. This one focuses on being kind to people. Mr Mean is the main character, and he slowly learns the benefit of being kind to people. It’s a good way of introducing young kids to the idea of needing to be kind to people – how it can help others, and also make others be prepared to help them. My four-year-old son is a big fan of this book, and others in the series.
