I believe that was the same hayward skimmer i had and this replacement was a perfect fit.

No. You can't maintain the integrity of the pins, nor can you flex the flapper enough in the installation space you have to work with. Better to unscrew the old part, no matter how difficult that might be, and install the whole assembly.
