Great Purchase!
I'm interested in traveling to Kilimanjaro in the next few years, and was browsing titles. I went to college with one of the authors, so this caught my eye. Very glad I ordered it! Its short - more of a "tips" guide than a travel guide, but had a lot of really useful information you wouldn't find in other places. Highly recommend for anyone interested in a realistic take on what you will need to do to prepare for the climb!

The best thing we learned was to have Gu to get ...
I bought this book for my daughter to get her enthused about our climb and she got a lot of ideas after reading it. The best thing we learned was to have Gu to get energy at high altitude - I don't think I would have reached the summit without it - and to bring extra snacks for porters, guides and the few children we met when we first entered the park. Most of the other recommendations did not seem to apply to us.

Quick reference, good tidbits
Liked- good tidbits of info to help with comfort- good info on acts of kindness & generosity toward guides, porters & locals- quick readRoom for improvement- not just for girls- Book noted bring tons of plastic bags, do NOT do that- The Government of Tanzania's has placed a prohibition on plastic bags effective June 1, 2019. All plastic carrier bags, regardless of their thickness, will be prohibited from being imported, exported, manufactured, sold, stored, supplied, and used in Mainland Tanzania

Great Read
Quick and informative read on what any woman who is considering the climb needs to read. These women provided information I would have not thought about, but that helped me decide which climbing organization to choose.

I do not recommend this book
while reading the book, the things they suggested to pack sounded good but after doing the climb I found a lot of their suggestions was not useful for me. so bottom line, I packed more stuff than I needed. I say don't buy this book so you won't over pack.

Very practice and thoughtful guide to the climb!
What an incredible journey these two women went on-mind, body and spirit. Their advice for others attempting this feat is incredibly thoughtful yet practical. This book is a great tool for anyone attempting to take the trip to Kilimanjaro.
