Almost There: A Twisted Tale

Mine came in a little stained but other than that it was fine
It came with a stain on the cover. It was small but still it was a gift and the person receiving it wanted it anyway. Very good book

Interesting Exploration of the Disney Movie
This was very enjoyable, although I had to stop halfway through and rewatch the movie. I would recommend you watch the Disney movie before reading this so you can fully appreciate how the author has carefully referenced lines and events in the Disney canon before she adds her own variation. Little throw-away lines from the movie come back here and have more meaning.I liked how the characters were fleshed out. I was pleased when Tiana finally tells Lottie that her life is very different, not because of the money, but because of the color of her skin. I thought this was a great and greatly needed scene to have in the book. Lottie could not have grown as a character without it.Anyone who has seen the movie or read the book knows that Tiana is worth ten of Lottie and doesn't have what she deserves just because she's Black. (I noticed, rewatching the movie, how Disney side stepped Eudora and young Tiana entering the trolley car and having to go to the back.) Lottie's absolute obliviousness is painful to observe, and more painful to admit that many of us white people have acted that way for years. I like to see these things addressed in books.I was thrown out of the story when Naveen, who carries his trumpet with him, is able to substitute for professional musicians on a moment's notice. I'm a classical musician, not jazz, but I suspect that even jazz musicians need far more than a year to master their instrument and a fair amount of notice to plan and rehearse a solo program. Then I remembered that I was reading a book based on a movie which has an alligator which plays trumpet. Okay, if an alligator can play a trumpet, I guess a prince can master one in just a year.I was also bothered by Naveen's carrying his trumpet with him everywhere. Trumpet cases aren't huge, but it is a nuisance to be carrying around unnecessarily. I would also seriously worry about theft, so I had to check out how much trumpets cost.Okay, you can buy a professional quality trumpet for a lot less than I paid for my violin, which is not professional grade. And we know that Naveen is careless with money. Trumpets, being made of metal, are also a lot less fragile than string instruments, so it's not as risky to the instrument. Most people are not going to have such qualms about this book. It is a fun exercise in stepping away from the movie part way and exploring a different path Tiana could have taken. I think in some ways, this may have been a more joyful path for her (than in the film) as she did get extra time with a loved one. But as long as I get my happily ever after, I don't really care how we get there.

Need this as a Movie ASAP!!!
I am a diehard, princess and the frog fanatic. I watch the movie literally to ease anxiety. This movie has been a saving grace for me mentally when I was working in the corporate world I love this movie. I know it backwards and forward. I got Disney+ only because the movie was on there!!So now let’s get into this book! I am one with a very vivid imagination, and every word this author wrote popped out of the pages, kept me on the edge of my seat. Every detail every picture she painted was just phenomenal and because I have seen this play out in my head I now want Disney to come out with a twisted tail version of their movies. This one needs to be number one! I appreciate all of the attention to detail, and since I’ve been to New Orleans, I could recognize the streets the visuals that she placed in the book. I was so sad when the book was over. I am on the hunt for any other book this author has wrote because I will repeat as a princess and the frog Fanatic this book was EVERYTHING!!Thank You!!
