From visionary filmmaker Lana Wachowski comes “The Matrix Resurrections", the long-awaited fourth film in the ground-breaking franchise that redefined a genre. The new film reunites original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in the iconic roles they made famous, Neo and Trinity. Review: The Matrix - Excellent quality. Review: Pursuing the truth - is life real, or an illusion? - The fourth instalment of any movie series requires a specific link with what has gone before, as well as a narrative that introduces something different. Matrix Resurrections just about manages to fulfil both objectives. Its link with the previous three movies is in the basic thesis of the series, that there is a reality behind and beyond that experienced by humans. In the first movie, Matrix, we are introduced to a mysterious force known as The Matrix. It is an existence where subterfuge, control, and domination reign supreme. It is a matrix almost beyond comprehension. It is a world where humans live, but it is a world of deceptions - an elaborate scheme of evil cyber-intelligence. This is the world into which the main character of the series, Neo (played by Keanu Reeves) ventures, led there by a beautiful female Trinity (played by Carrie-Anne Moss), and joins with a group of rebels, led by the charismatic warrior Morpheus (played by Laurence Fishburn). The Matrix movie has a mythological element, whose truth needs to be discovered, whose illusion needs to be confronted before it can be destroyed, and the power of The Matrix can be defeated. This requires much thought, risk-taking, and courage as humans fight to stay alive - to escape The Matrix. This gives the movie much of its action. In the second movie, the first sequel, Matrix Reloaded, we are given more information about the ‘real world’ and the last human city of Zion. The urban reality of Zion features encounters between humans and the artificially intelligent bad guys. Martial arts strongly feature in the action. So too, there are several motifs that become prominent, including love and truth, purpose and reason, as the main characters seek to follow the courses they have chosen. Particularly, it is Neo who assumes the heroic figure as he seeks to find a way to defeat The Matrix and save humanity. The first sequel leads on to a second, The Matrix Revolutions. In this conclusion to the Matrix trilogy, we find Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity battling to defend the city of Zion, the last real-world city, against the onslaughts of the machines that have enslaved humanity. Neo learns more about the powers that he possesses, and he seeks to put them into practice as he faces the consequences of the choices he made, as evidenced in the previous movie, The Matrix Reloaded. The action is explosive and the excitement of the first two movies in the series is maintained, with some of the complexity of the trilogy’s plot lines being tied-up. The fourth film to appear in the series, Matrix Resurrections, is not so much a third sequel, but a postlude to the series. The human opposition to the matrix has remained, and that opposition is resurrected in this fourth movie. For Neo to truly know himself - is he a physical or mental construct, is his life real or an illusion - Neo will once again need to enter The Matrix. However, he is unaware that The Matrix is stronger and more dangerous than ever before; but Neo knows what he must do. The pursuit of his objectives makes for the dramatic and exciting conclusion to the four-movie series. Each of the movies in the Matrix series is produced with excellent Blu-ray and superb Dolby Digital sound. The movies are still available in their various single or series formats, and all at budget prices.

Pursuing the truth - is life real, or an illusion?
The fourth instalment of any movie series requires a specific link with what has gone before, as well as a narrative that introduces something different. Flawed but striking.
Visually arresting and deeply self-aware, The Matrix Resurrections is a film that defies expectations by almost turning its own existence into an artistic statement. While its meta-commentary can feel both mischievous and narratively confusing, it's a memorable and divisive blockbuster.

The Matrix returns
A new Matrix movie. I was not aware of anyone other than the studio's accountants demanding one, but here we are. This is not a jumping on point if you've not seen the originals. You have had long enough by now, after all. We meet Mr. Anderson again. Who is doing things a bit different now. But then things get strange. And he can't escape his past.... Personal opinion: the first third of this is great. It's clever. It's original. It's amusing at points. It gets the word Mendacious into the script. It's doing new things. Which is great and interesting to see. But then explanations follow. And it just falls a bit flat. It does do a very good job of building on the original, and the world you get in this story is a good and logical development of things from the original. But it never really sparks in the second and final third of the film. These just lack energy, excitement, and involvement. A compliment though: it's better than Matrix resurrections. Because it's never bad. It's just never, in this portion of the film, amazing or original. It's another film for those who want nostalgia. But sometimes, it's better sticking with the memories of the original rather than trying to recapture that. It does actually raise one interesting idea late on. And then isn't the least bit interested in exploring that. Turn the volume down as the end credits begin, because the first bit of music in that is a dreadful screaming cacophony. There is an extra scene after the end credits. Which may be important and thus worth seeing. Or it may not. Who knows? And does anyone care? This does feel like a trilogy starter. We had a few Terminator films like that of late. None of them got beyond the first one. Will this go the same way? The accountants will get back to you on that. But as mentioned, that's just my opinion. Since this does seem to be splitting opinion, I don't think it would hurt to judge for yourself. Just be prepared, in light of the above. The disc has the following language and subtitle options: Languages: English, Castilian Spanish. Subtitles: English, Castilian Spanish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish. The disc goes into the main menu when loaded with no trailers or ads. There is one extra: welcome to Io. Which is on the main menu. A six min long look at how some of the world building in here was done and the ideas behind it. Those are quite interesting, so this is worth a watch.

TRUE 'MATRIX-FANS' WILL LOVE IT
Must admit, given how the third and presumed final instalment some 18 years ago, I did wonder how this one would pan-out. Keanu Reeves resumes his role as Neo, however, these days he lives a normal life working as a Video-Game-Developer. However, he will after all the years away be invited back into the Matrix, which initially he's unsure of doing realizing he'll not, or probably won't be the same as he once was, but, back before events of the third in the series he goes. Neo will again meet many of the characters from before including his love interest Trinity/Tiffany (Carrie-Anne Moss) along with Morpheus with flash-backs of Michael Fassbender as the character and arch-enemy Mr Smith, again with brief flashbacks to the original casting. The first half of the film did feel a little muddled in my view but came to life in the second-half bringing back many a memory of hoe things were before with superb action-sequences and indeed dazzling CGI enhanced greatly on the 4k version with its superb picture quality.

Awesome 4k picture, immersive surround sound! The plot is very good and the actors played very well. Keanu and Carrie-Anne still look very well, so the whole movie is a must for everyone who enjoyed the Matrix movies so far.

Disappointment! Nothing like the first three! Totally disjointed story!
