Charms for the Easy Life

A very entertaining film. Gena Rowlands being the highly versatile professional that she is, superbly portrays the starring character's role in the movie. The film's co-stars very ably help create the synergism that engages the movie viewer throughout the storyline. The only odd piece in the movie is when a sole quirky scene takes place played by the 'in-name-only' itinerant almost never seen husband of Rowlands' character is featured singing a bemoaning wailing song a-cappella while near a waiting taxi in ear shot to Rowlands' character (no spoiler intended).

Good DVD

Sorry to say, I'm running out of steam from commenting on movies I've been watching lately, or I would carry on longer than viewer might want to read. All of the actors in this film were quite good, believable and worked well as an ensemble. However, the main reason for my purchasing this movie, "Charms for the Easy Life", was because of Gena Rowlands. She always maintains a dignity and purposeful quiet presence, that you know will eventually burst open when all logic has been exhausted. Some scenes are slightly predictable, but the acting and story line more than make up for that. Very good film.

How about not misleading your "prime" customers and clearly warning them that commercial interruptions are mandatory? Amazon misleading ripoffs like this leave me with a bad feeling about Amazon's other products.

I love this film, the characters and the plot. No puriant interst or bad language to muddle through. I only wish period pieces would pay closer attention to the jargon of that time such as the daughter saying, "it is what it is" which is a fairly new line in our speech. But I enjoyed this. Each woman has strengths and weakensses, if you can call them weaknesses such as in love affairs. I will watch this again and I'm going to read the book.

I didn't really like this movie. It's well acted but some of the story is just grating. I loved the home they lived in. Watching it with commercials was even worse because it was the same commercials over and over and a lot of them.

What a wonderful story passing from one generation to the next a gift of natural healing, honesty and openness in a family. You will no doubt be glad you took the time to watch this movie and feel your heart opening to how we learn Love and understanding.

I am ordering the DVD today. I have the book, and have read it over and over and over, since 1999. It is charming, and wonderful, and even better than reading it, is listening to Kaye Gibbons read it on audio tape. I have worn my tape out listening to it so many times. Kaye's voice makes the characters come alive, and her North Carolinian accent is simply beautiful. If you haven't read the book, get it today! You will fall in love with these 3 women, and Kaye Gibbons style of story-telling!

One of my favorite movies! A severely underrated and unknown movie. Incorporates herbalism, a few love stories while bringing you back to another era. This type of movie makes you feel warm inside, joyful when watching it. I feel like this should have been a series as I never want the movie to end.
