The rating is based on value for the price, overall it is an average quality product but the price compared to other items on the market makes it a great value. My son and I took about four hours to assemble. For comparison, we are pretty experienced with this type of work so consider that to be in the lower part of the likely time scale. It takes two people to assemble, and there are a couple steps where you really have to think through it with two. A third set of hands would be extremely helpful. Until the installation of the sun shade it can be done with 1 ladder, but you'll need at least a 2 step stool and a nearly 6' person along with a person on a step ladder to complete that. If you don't have a screw gun or drill with allen bits, don't even try to assemble this The included wrenches will never do it and you'd take days. There are over 100 screws to install. May of the parts fit very tight, especially the plates that join the posts and headers. Can be a bit of a challenge to get them aligned, but they fit. But, I was amazed at how sturdy they are after assembly. The instructions are excellent, the big blue Swedish folks would be jealous. Diagrams are well detailed and include great pictures that help you understand how the various parts align. Follow them step by step, Finally, the packaging was unreal. Parts inside of parts, some very well designed caps that protect the posts from damage. All parts included and well marked to make assembly easier. The only negative and its a tiny one, is the lights are generic and I wish there were mounts or places to attach them.

Ordering and delivery went as expected with no issues. Package arrived on time with no visible damage to the outside of the box. Packaging was well done, all components wrapped in plastic or foam, there was not a scratch on a single piece. There were however several small dents in a few pieces and 1 connector plate that required a few firm but gental taps with a hammer to straighten. That said the damage was pretty insignificant and cosmetic. Everything assembled pretty well. It does take a fair amount of time to assemble and did require a little assistance. Overall, I'm very happy with the results and added shade it provides.

This was perfect for our small backyard. There were some slight misalignments with a few of the holes but it was easy to work around. I reached out to the seller and they were great. Offered a full replacement but I’d already made it work so they gave me a partial refund which was cool of them. Also had to make a couple of cuts to make it fit against the house and that was pretty easy as well. Overall this is a great product and definitely worth the price.

This pergola fits the aesthetics that you’re looking for perfectly! Definitely will take 2 to 3 people to assemble. Adding the string lighting makes this the perfect space for hosting or just a quiet evening! The only downfall are the plastic clips that hold the canopy up, as stormy weather has already broken a few of them, even with the canopy being tied back. I may look into purchasing something more permanent for this.

We absolutely love our pergola! This is a high quality pergola that looks amazing around our hot tub. We can now enjoy our hot tub when it’s raining or snowing by just sliding over the canopy! We also installed blinds to the sides of it for extra privacy. If you have a hot tub, this is a game changer! Also, Customer service is top notch! Would highly recommend!

Customer service refunded me for the curtains. I’ll rate this from 1 to 3 stars, since customer service resolved my issue. Still need to figure out what to do with the curtains. Hopefully the manufacturer can fix their design issue. The reason I wanted this pergola was for the privacy curtain. The curtain was never installed, because the holes to screw them in was only a hole and never designed for the curtains. I tried working with the manufacturer for a replacement beam, but I was told to drill screws myself! My experience and reasons not to buy this pergola: 1. Bad design. Curtains will not be assembled 2. Holes do not match to screw in. Be prepared to use multiple screws after they are forced in. 3. Instructions are not detailed enough. I had to figure out why parts don’t fit and uninstall to reinstall. 4. Cheap aluminum 5. Expect curtains to ship separately from pergola. 6. Missing parts and had to buy at the store. 7. Customer Service sucks 8. Top canopy gets snagged in the middle of the rail and isn’t a smooth open and close

This pergola looks great. It was easy to assemble with two adults. Everything has held up over the two years I have owned it, but the side rollers and center plastic rollers broke and I can't find replacement parts. I'm waiting to hear back from Purple Leaf. I contacted the company and they got the correct parts to me in a timely fashion. My inquiry about replacement parts was answered quickly.

This has upgraded the look and function of our deck tremendously! The woodgrain beams look natural and are sturdy and attractive, without the weathering and warping issues wood presents. The retractable sunshade makes our deck usable at most any time of day now and creates a comfortable “outdoor room” at night, too. The only improvement I’d like to see is for the small, narrow canopy over the retractable shade to slope downward more so that it drains off during rainfalls. The current slope is too small, so this cover collects the rain.. The customer service has been phenomenal! We were missing a few small plastic covers for the screw heads and they were mailed to us within a couple of days. When I realized I’d ordered the wrong pieces, they shipped me the correct ones immediately. Very professional and responsive.
