A Blossom in the Desert: Reflections of Faith in the Art and Writings of Lilias Trotter Paperback – June 15, 2016

I read a brief article in a magazine about Lilias Trotter and then searched for this book for several years. I finally found it and it has become my all-time favorite read and she is my favorite missionary! I was fascinated by her story! The magazine article was titled, "Almost Famous" because she had a chance to become a famous artist, but gave up being famous to use her God-given gift of art to share the love and message of Jesus with the people of Algeria. She was a selfless servant of Jesus and continues to be an inspiration to me.

This is a deep, beautiful book by an artist who was almost forgotten. Lillias Trotter's meditations are so profound that you can ponder a couple of pages for days. Her artwork is beautiful, brilliantly composed and well executed. If you are looking for a quick read, this book is not meant to be read quickly. If you are looking for the deep musings of a beautiful soul in bite-size readings, this is the book for you. Her thoughts on faith, accompanied by lovely artwork, will encourage your heart and deepen your thinking. I have found this book very calming and thought-provoking over the past few months of reading it. This book will delight a thoughtful, artistic, literary person of faith.

Beautiful watercolors along with bible verses and the faith-filled muses of writer, missionary and artist from the mid to late 1800's, Lilias Trotter. The book was compiled by Miriam Huffman Rockness and she did a superb job. It's one of those quiet, found gem of a book that one happens upon unexpectedly. So glad I learned about it and was able to find it. Book is in excellent condition.

After watching the biography on Amazon "Many Beautiful Things" about the little known, talented artist, Lilias Trotter, I was excited to come across this beautiful book of her art and thoughts. It has become by far one of my favorite coffee table, inspirational books!

Her artwork is captivating. Her love for Algeria and its people is compelling. She knew God deeply; it comes out in her thoughts. It is sad that she is so little known in Christendom.

This is a beautiful book capturing the wisdom and gifts of Lilias Trotter and sharing them with us for eternity. It would make a beautiful gift. Everyone should know Lilias' story. I am so grateful to Miriam Huffman Rockness for making sure that we can.

This is my very first post, so you know it took something for me to do it. But this book deserves all 5 stars. I am a serious student of the Bible and other literature, but these reflections are often way out of my league. Lilias Trotter lived in an era when people wrote well, and thought deeply about the meaning of life and the beauty of God and His creation. I am tiptoeing through this book, taking my time, and pausing to contemplate the significance of God's mysterious ways and works, which Lilias so beautifully expresses in words and in her painting. I am grateful for Miriam Rockness' skill in putting this book together. Thanks, Miriam! To God be the glory.

After reading her missionary work in Algeria, I bought this for a friend. She loved it and uses it as daily readings. What a remarkable woman Lilias Trotter was. A great artist too, which enhanced her missionary outreach. She put the Lord first in her life, and gave him the glory for her artistic talent.

This is an exquisite book with high quality photos of the artwork of the late Lilias Trotter, who was a lovely Christian lady. This is my all-time favourite coffee table book. I have bought many copies for different people, which have all been well received.
