Treat yourself, read John Varley
A treasure trove of tales that show how humans adapt, grow, live, love, win and lose. Pay attention and you will be rewarded with life lessons without suffering the bruises directly. Extremely well crafted stories by an astute observer of humanity.

A superb short story collection
John Varley has been a favourite of mine for many years. His style and invention is peerless, particularly in short story form. This brings together some of his finest works, including a couple I hadn't read before. Highly recommended.

Interesting collection ranging from 2.5 to 4.5 stars
Difficult to rate a collection of stories, especially with some dating so far back. I don't recall reading any of his books or stories before, and I have not read much 'clasic' SF recently, so it was an interesting experience. He has some interesting ideas, which he explores well and his writing style is generally very good. The stories in this collection range from OK to excellent. His grasp of scientific principles is good enough, and his excursions into the improbable were sufficiently interesting to make them worth reading. He has a few odd predelictions (like the recurring theme of nudity) which may be partly due to when he started writing: I do not find these objectionable, they just seem a little odd when brought together like this.On the whole, well worth a look
