The Perfect First Light for Me
I finally pulled the trigger on a proper light for my home YouTube studio.I have decent daylight in my office, but I've wanted to get a controllable light for a year now. Glad I finally did. This thing is perfect for my office - roughly 10x20ft so it's a decent size. It comes with some colored screens that are awesome. I bounced it off the walls and ceiling when I first unboxed it, and that would work quite fine.I did, however, opt for a soft box (pictured) to add on to it. And it's pretty sweet if you can swing that addition. The included remote is clutch. Very handy to make adjustments without having to get up.Perfect beginner light for this beginner.

So far, a good performance.
Arrived safely, well packed. Works well so far. Replacing a Dracast 600 that crapped out after 4 uses, now out of warranty, not worth the expense to repair, total waste of money. This light is working nicely with no hiccups. Completely satisfied with the build quality, brightness, adjustability and accessories that came with the light. Easy set up, runs quietly, remote is a convenient feature. Based upon performance so far, I would recommend this light. Good value.

Comparable & less costly than competitive brand on Amazon, but app requires email or cell-number
Item: Godox Mdl. SL-60-IID LED Video Spot, Cont.Adjust 2800K-6500K, 8-special effectsPrice: $139.00 at time of review on 05 XX 23When reviewing lighting, I’ll eventually or at the outset, take a look at Amazon’s ‘comparative-products.’ It’s usually half way down the vendor’s product page. The Godox SL-60-IID immediately reminded me of another recognizable brand of photo-video lighting, also on Amazon. As I ran through the specific features of the Godox, know that I’m mentally comparing it to a brand with which I’m well invested, I realized that both model lights were near identical in specifications and features. And with spotlights, which are many times ‘remotely accessed’, it starts with the control panel and any ‘app controls’ and/or ‘remote-control hardware.’ When specifications are near identical, my final comparison is price. And in this case Godox’s spot is a bit less. So let me go through the salient comparatives with the Godox SL-60-IID.Hardware Controls:Godox SL-60-IID offers three modes of control; (1) manual access on the back of the light-head, (2) remote control via a handheld remote and (3) Cellphone APP, which uses a ‘log-in’ and requires you use either a ‘cell-number’ or your ‘email.’ I didn’t feel comfortable sharing either, but used an anonymous email address which I will use for this type of situation.Price Point:Godox SL-60-IID is currently $40 less costly than one of the national brands. And the list of features between the two brands are near identical.Bowen Mount Compatible:While a notable feature, without it no prosumer or commercial spotlight could be competitive. So yes, Godox’s light comes with a standard reflector and the light is Bowen mount compatible.70-watt Rating:While certainly at the lower range for a prosumer spotlight, it serves its purpose for close work; not so much for large group photos and/or videos. Used in tandem with another spot, it makes a nice fill light. On its own and in a small controlled studio space, it can provide ‘single light’, strong shadow, dramatic lighting. The Godox App:Probably one feature that bothered me. At the outset it requires that you ‘sign-up’ to the app. You can either use a mobile-number or your email address. I always use a group of email addresses reserved for possible SPAM. With that, I added the app to my phone. But honestly, and even with my other ‘larger inventory lighting brand’, I typically ‘manually’ go to each light and set levels. I’ve shared that being at the light gives me a better perspective on how my adjustments are effected the overall lighting. If I wanted remote access I’d use the ‘Bluetooth, hardware-remote’ supplied. Final comment... I'm heavy into another well known lighting brand. So when I look for lighting that offers 'app control', the benefit of have one brand of lighting means I can operate nearly all those lights using just 'one app.' So that's something to consider when investing in prosumer/studio gear.Low Noise Fan:Again, this is a major issue ‘if’ the light is noisy. But this one isn’t as it evidently uses the same technology as my other brand. A couple years ago I reviewed a lighting system that was so noisy it could only be used in still work. I’ve yet to use that set.Special Effect Lighting:Yes, the SL60IID has 8 effects and the upgraded model SL60llBi comes with 11 effects. For me, this isn’t a deal breaker in spotlights, but without it my competitive analysis would probably take a spotlight out of the competition. The reason for effects in spotlights is, of course, the greater brilliance and coverage of the chose effect. Although, remember that this is only a 70-watt spot. So its best application is in smaller setups.Overall, I preceived this spotlight as having the same internals as my other, same wattage and features loaded spotlight. So feature to feature it's comparable and a few dollars less costly. But that price difference isn't enough for me to start investing right now in another brand that has a different cellphone app. That's my issue given my lighting inventory. While a respectable design, I couldn't go 5-stars given the app requiring a cell or email to load.

Loving the New Bi-color Version of a Popular Value Leader
There’s a lot to like about the Godox SL60II Bi. That should come as no surprise, as the older Godox SL60W has been one of the most popular lights in its class, particularly among video creators, but also with many photographers. And the more recently released SL60IID has proven a worthy replacement for the SL60W. But both models are limited to producing daylight color temperature. That usually works fine in my home studio. But sometimes I need to alter the color temperature for artistic purposes, or to combine with other light sources that are not at or near 5600K. That’s the first place the SL60II Bi shines, so to speak. With the ability to adjust the color temperature from 2800 to 6500K, the SL60II Bi becomes a team player! For even more color possibilities, the package included 6 diffuser/gels that slip on over the front of the reflector. Five are colored, while the 6th is white.Godox has also provided a slightly higher output capability compared to either of the other models. That’s based on the comparative output at 5600K and without the supplied reflector mounted. Add the newly designed reflector to either the SL60IID or the SL60II Bi and the on-axis brightness is pretty dramatically increased over the older SL60W, with its reflector. I say “on axis” because the new reflector creates a hot spot in the center of the projected light pattern. While that is not ideal, I hardly ever use the reflector, and the Bowens mount allows the user to choose, instead, from a wide assortment of Bowens-mount light modifiers, from octaboxes, rectangular softboxes, beauty dishes and strip boxes to snoots. I also like to use an umbrella, at times, but none of these SL60 models provides a receptacle for an umbrella shaft to slide through the swivel mount. That would be one of my few complaints. The original SL60W received complaints from some video creators about the SPL of the internal fan. I understand that. While it is not always an issue, depending upon the miking technique and the distance from the fan to the microphone, the improved, lower-noise fan in the SL60II Bi is very welcome. In my tests so far, I have not been able to hear the fan noise in my audio track for typical talking-head or interview scenarios, whether using a lav or a nearby cardioid or hypercardioid mic.In addition to the full range of available color temperatures, I’m loving the new SL60II Bi for all the reasons I liked its predecessors. Already mentioned are the Bowens mount and the lower fan noise, but there’s more. First off, it’s very affordable. But it also features top rate build quality and durability, a small form factor and easy portability. On that subject, this is an AC only system, not battery operable. On the plus side, it comes with a very long, heavy-duty AC cord that plugs directly into the back of the light, using a standard IEC connector. I much prefer this to the inline “brick” power supplies that can be a pain to deal with, especially when the stand is raised quite high and the brick can’t set on the floor. The lack of battery power and the low cost may explain the absence of a carrying/storage case or bag. A soft bag with some molded foam inside would be very welcome. The integral swivel mount, like that on the earlier models, is rugged as heck, and locks solidly in place, even with a big light modifier hanging off the front of it.There are now eleven effects available, with some being much more convincing with the color temperature changes included in them than they were in a daylight-only light.Control of the SL60II Bi is easily accomplished via any of three methods: the simple rear panel controls, a small RC-A6 2.4GHz remote or by a versatile, downloadable Godox app for your phone. The app and the RC-A6 remote offer an easy way to control multiple Godox COB lights, either in groups or individually. And there are certainly plenty of groups and channels from which to choose. There are 16 groups and 32 channels! Plus, you can set an ID number, from 1-99, to further ensure that you will avoid interference from other RF sources in the area. When using the rear panel controls, intensity is fully adjustable from 0-100% in 1% increments, while still giving the ability to spin the control for quickly increasing or decreasing the output. Not to be ignored, the color accuracy leaves nothing to be desired, with a CRI of 96 and a TLCI of 97!The SL60II Bi is a solid performer, a great choice for both beginner and seasoned video producer. The additions and improvements over both the older SL60W and the recent SL60D ensure this Godox instrument will continue to make it a favorite of many of my fellow photographers and videographers.
