Cain's Jawbone

I somehow missed the re-release of Cain’s Jawbone a couple of years ago. I only learned of it in early December, 2023. I ordered two copies: one to make notes in and one to take apart in order to shuffle the scrambled pages. This was one of the most difficult, frustrating challenges I have ever undertaken. At the same time, I became obsessed with it. Since the publisher will let you know if you have solved it in January of each year if you submit your solution by 12/31, I was on the clock. I spent hours each day researching quotes, checking historical references and shuffling pages. If you like a challenge, if you love word play, if you like solving mysteries, or if you have someone in your life who does, buy a copy or two. Be forewarned, it is not easy. But my sense of accomplishment when I emailed my solution was enormous. ————————— HINTS: You will need Google maps and Botanical.com. While I haven’t personally read it myself, I can say it made the perfect present for someone who enjoys mysteries, murders, and a good plot twist. Just seeing how excited she was to dive in tells me it was a hit. If you're looking for a unique and thoughtful gift for someone who’s into crime fiction or suspense, this book is right up their alley. Highly recommend as a gift idea!

A great gift, especially for readers and puzzlers!

I heard about this book from Instagram and thought it would be super fun. I’ve read through it and have no idea how to solve it. I am considering cutting the binding on this in an attempt to solve it. It has page numbers so I could always put it back the way it came but I think if I could rearrange it so it reads the way I think it should that might help in solving it. At first I was frustrated that only one side of the pages had text but now after trying to read it and figure out the mystery I understand. I like to read mystery stories but this one, for obvious reasons, is hard to understand but will be something I hold onto and pick back up when I don’t know what to read next. As a warning there are scenarios of abuse and murder of course - as it’s a murder mystery. It is not too graphic in the descriptions though.

I love mind puzzles and true crime, so this book eventually made it to my social media feeds. I had to get it. It is very difficult and not for the faint of heart. That being said, it has held my attention and proved to give me a good challenge. Since I started, I have ordered the book for two friends and my brother. I definitely recommend this too any mystery lover!

The premise is outstanding, and the challenge is real - truly a delight for any true puzzle lover! But here's my problem with this puzzle book: This was written in 1930's British English, something that was poorly or not at all made apparent at first glance. This creates 2 major puzzles for anyone that speaks American English (or at least not British English) - trying to decipher several foreign and sometimes archaic words, and then the actual murdery mystery itself! Again, great concept, but made so much less fun by having to look up several British 1930's slang words on ALMOST EVERY PAGE.

Bought this as a gift for a friend who likes mysteries. It's suppose to be fully interactive for the reader and makes them feel immersed in the mystery they are trying to solve.

It's just a book. It's what's printed in it that matters. The puzzle is very interesting. It might take me a couple of months to solve if I'm being honest
