Q: Is the really 9 1/2 inches or is that a misprint?

If it’s the size you mean. It’s 6 X 3 1/2

Q: When locked, do you need to unlock from the inside to open the door or will the handle just turn and open?

From the inside just turn and open.

Q: My top deadbolt is 5 1/2 inchs above the doorknob this is replacing. will it fit?

Yes - It seems like the standard distance between centers of the deadbolt and door latch holes is 5 1/2". This works with about 3/4" to spare - at least to the collar of my deadbolt and that will vary slightly. I did try several different keyless locks and all the others I tried partially covered the deadbolt bore and had to be returned. This one works!

Yes. Press the Kwikset button and it lights up the numerical keypad.
