Amazing bar!
I bought this bar for my elderly mother, initially. Now my father is needing assistance so I am purchasing a few more to place in various positions. This bar is extremely sturdy and works well with 4" inch tiles or larger. The main thing to remember is that after cleaning your tiles, rub the tiles, that the suction cups will adhere to, with rubbing alcohol and let that dry before placing the bar in place. Also be sure the cups are clean, as well. I've used liquid dish soap to clean the cups. Be sure these are dry as well. If you follow these directions, you will be amazed at how well the cups grab the tile. Seriously, you can nearly use the bar without clamping down (of course do clamp down for extra and final hold)...the suction is that good! Also, remember that the clamps are adjustable for suction strength, as well. One can hang off these bars...it is that strong. Love the telescoping feature, as well. This bar is well worth the price for your loved ones!!!

do not apply it to glass
Would not hold onto tile so I attached it to glass window in tub area. It did provide suction but cracked my window. I I would like to return it. I had it attached to window for 5 minutes and then I heard the window crack. I wish the company would contact me so I could return it.

It seemed fine when I first installed it
This grab bar is not safe. I followed installation directions and installed it in a shower with smooth 12" tiles. It seemed fine when I first installed it. I tested it, and it provided support. The next day, I heard a crash in the bathroom. The bar had fallen onto the floor. Each time I install it, the same thing happens--it works for a while, and then gives way. Given the price, this product should function better than it does. Imagine someone with balance issues grabbing this for support when none is there.

Excellent hold, but not on polished granite surfaces
This is a very sturdy and high quality product, and worth the cost, and would have gotten a solid five stars, except we couldn't use it on my elderly in-Law's polished granite shower walls, which I didn't realize and don't recall seeing mentioned in any other reviews. Turns out granite is microscopically porous, so while the grab bars initially were extremely secure, overnight enough air leaked in through the grain structure of the granite to release the grip, and both bars were laying on the shower floor in the morning. Very dissapointing, as they stuck like crazy initially, and are hella strong. So if you have a granite shower enclosure (and I realize most people don't), unfortunately, these are probably not for you.

Really Sticks
After looking over several of the inexpensive portable grab bars and reading about the problems people had with them coming loose, I decided to spend the extra money on a quality product. The Bridge medium telescoping grab bar is a HEAVY DUTY item and is extremely sturdy and solid with giant (about 4"+ diameter) suction cups. Using this on a perfectly smooth cultured marble shower, after the ends are locked down, I have been unable, despite my best efforts, to pull this thing loose, even bracing my feet against the wall and pulling with my entire body weight. The suction cups can take some doing to get loose even after the ends are unlocked!Make no mistake: this is a premium product with a premium price, but I think you get what you pay for. One caveat is that the maximum 24" length is measured from each end of the suction cups, so that the actual length of the usable grab bar when fully telescoped is more like about 15".All is all, though, I would highly recommend this item as an aid for use in any shower or bath, so long as your walls are smooth.

Need 4" or larger tiles to work
I am a Nurse Geriatric Care Manager and recommended this product for my client's tile surfaced bathrooms. The tile is 3.5 inches and it would not stick to the surface. It appears it only will adheres on tile 4 inches or larger..wish this was clearer in the manufacturer information as we had to return 4 of them.

Exactly what I wanted!
It is amazing to me how many people do not read the product reviews to check how the item performs. On this particular item i read many reviews where they were unhappy about the grab bar not staying up because of the vacuum not holding. I was really surprised to see that the bar would not work on granite due to microscopic veins in the granite that slowly let in air to release the vacuum. If in doubt about your surface get a cheap vacuum mounted towel hook or other appliance that needs a solid surface to work on. If it hold for several days you can feel reasonably sure that the grab bar will hold. We had been using a vacuum mounted hook for wash cloths for several years so I was sure of the surface I am working with.On receiving the grab bar I removed the parts from the box on a granite island top. One of the ends was placed on the granite with the rubber side down. The surface of the rubber was true that I had to slide the end over to the side of the granite to remove it. I mention this to show how well the vacuum works even without the level moved to pull the vacuum on the end. Yes, it was on granite but remember the vein in the granite is microscopic and it would take quite a while for the part to release on its own.Assembly of the grab bar is easy. Just slide the bar into the two ends and make sure the retractable pins lock in place. Place it where you want it go and flip the levers over. There is no way I can pull the grab bar off my shower wall. To relocate within the shower or remove for traveling, just flip the levers up and take your finger nail to lift up the end. That is one of the beauties of this grab bar. I can be moved to a better location within the shower if not positioned properly the first time. One last word of caution. Make sure you get the right bar for the tile size if you do not have a solid surface. There is one made for 4" tile and one for 5" tile. The larger one will not work on 4" tile since it would be going over a grout joint. YOU MUST HAVE A SOLID SEAL AROUND THE ENTIRE SUCTION CUP FOR THE VACUUM TO HOLD. I love the grab bar and feel as if I have all the safety needed for getting in and out of the shower.
