A pocket size guide to the Scottish Munros
Beautifully designed pocket-sized guide that can comfortable fit in a backpack. The book contains important information about each Munro, routes how to get there and alternatives paths. Its Introduction also provides the reader or those who plan on hiking up a Munro with useful information on how to get there, where to find accommodation, what to do in the emergency, etc. There are beautiful photos throughout the guide to inspire you about the natural beauty of Scotland. I can tell a lot of hard work and first-hand exploration went into compiling the guide and it's worth every penny!

Consider going up a Munro (peak) in Scotland ... and bring this guidebook
This past September 2012, I visited Scotland for my 3rd time, particularly to make it up two Munros (peaks): An Teallach (45 miles NW of Loch Ness) and Ben Nevis (UK's highest ... near Fort William, SW of Loch Ness). This book was not available at the time (just came out a few months ago). Upon reviewing the hikes I did, I see that the information is very accurate in this newly available book. The maps are quite detailed for the size of the book (4.25 x 5.75 x 1.5 inches). The photos of the Munros and landscapes are very nice and representative of the beauty of the Scottish countryside. Most of the Munros are not technical and can be hiked up by most anyone in reasonable shape (my frame of reference is having done many mountain peak scrambles in the northern Rocky Mountains of the US, which for the most part were harder). So, when visiting Scotland, seriously consider making it up at least one Munro as part of the full Scottish experience ... and get this guidebook first.I have used the authors' website: walkinghighlands.co.uk to also hike out to beautiful beaches in Scotland (e.g., Sandwood Bay in the upper NW of Scotland is highly recommended).Even though this book is relatively small, it would also make a great coffee table book ... just looking at the photos is enjoyable. Overall, a very well-done book.

sehr hilfreich
Die Beschreibungen der Routen sind einfach, trotzdem sehr hilfreich und gut. Das kleine Format eignet sich hervorragend für einen Ausflug. Macht auf jeden Fall Lust auf mehr Wanderung!

Great Guide to the Munros
I bought this book recently as I wanted a change from my old guides. I used it last week on some Munros in the Monadhliath and Cairngorms that I had not climbed before. I found it well written, lively and helpful. It allowed me to anticipate the routes well, and get my timings and pacing right. It helped me get round the Munros well. I also checked what it said on some Munros I'd previously climbed and the descriptions were accurate and clear.I loved the route descriptions and photographs in this book and so have given it five stars.I do however have a reservation that is worth mentioning. I'm not sure the format does this book justice. It is a heavy little brick of a book and I wouldn't take it on the hill with me- too heavy- and would easily get damaged. I think I'd have preferred it in a bigger format and font size- more for reading before and after a walk than its current small size. But this drawback is minor- what we have here is a well written, well illustrated, accurate and helpful guide to the Munros. It will help me with completing my own round of the Munros (216 so far) and I am sure it will many others with their exploration of these hills. Recommended.

A fantastic guide to the Munros
Love this book. Packed with nice photos and practical info. It's chunky, but not too heavy that you can't take it with you on a climb (despite what others have said, you don't need a wheelbarrow). The one thing missing is a map of Scotland with all the Munros shown so you can see where they all are and which ones are furthest north, etc, but the other maps are all pretty good. Inspiring stuff. Go buy then go outside!
