I've bought one each for me, my son, and my son in law. It's sasy to open and close (oncr you get a little practice closi9ng it one-handed. Start SLOW and kepp your fingers out of the blade's path.). Only 30% of the liner is in contact with blade, is it by design? Is it safe to use? Why not 100% contact between liner and blade?

Liner locks are designed to wear over time, so as long as the knife is relatively new and the tang of the blade is firm against the lock when open, 30% is fine. Over time, the friction between the blade and the lock will cause the lock to settle in and when open, the lock bar will open wider and more of it will contact the blade tang. You wouldn't want that to be 100% out of the box because then the wear would eventually cause the lock bar to over-travel and not lock up solidly. In fact, any liner or frame lock knife that throws to a full 100% is probably worn out, and should have the lock bar insert replaced, or be outright retired if it doesn't have one.
