North American Cambridge Latin Course Unit 1 Student's Book

Solid, step=by-step with illustrations and a story-line intro to Latin
This is a great second text for me, as a self-learning adult. My other resource has been Lingua Latina, which has the accompanying audio which is GREAT.The pros of this are: -explanations in English of the grammar-A slower, more gradual introduction of grammar points-each chapter has a section on historical/ cultural information which I find is EXTREMELY helpful-it is very user friendlyCons: -no audio, that is, they made audio, it's hard to find and extremely expensiveNote: I did manage to procure the CDs for Unit 1 and Unit 2. Paid a lot. They were produced with a whole repertoire of actors , so you get many voices, not just one, plus accompanying sound effects. However, they make no effort to differentiate the long vowels from the short, and not infrequently get the stress on the wrong syllable.

Makes learning fun
This is a high quality series that makes learning Latin fun (I'm in my 60's!). It puts the language in the context of culture and history. The story is compelling with interesting charachters.

Good condition for the price
Only 1 page had writing on it and only a little cover damage. It was in good condition for the price.

Excellent study book for younger students
This book is well written and a real boon to younger students who are starting out in Latin. I'm a teacher and I plan to use this method.

Makes learning Latin enjoyable!
Preferred over Henle due to the ease of use and illustrations done in story-telling form. My daughter finds it much more interesting.

a "kid's" Latin starter
Useful for learning Latin in the 9th grade. Who learns Latin in middle school? Anyway, kid level instruction learning some Latin vocabulary and how you use them. I found it fun anyway though no substitute for slugging out the grammar anyway. If you have the collegiate tomes already, you can entertain yourself with this series. May actually remember some of it.

Engaging book for middle school age beginners
This book is part of the curriculum for middle schooler's Latin course. It is engaging (the instructor also makes a difference), more so than the Maximus series, which is better for a younger audience.

Caecilius est in horto.
This was amazing. Caecilius est meus pater, et est in horto. I would die for Grumio, Clemens, and Cerberus. I laughed, I cried, I experienced the full range of human emotion with this book. For the first time in my life I think I truly understand what it means to love unconditionally because of this book. I don’t know much Latin, but that isn’t the point. Buy this book.
