Good, consistent performance.
I’ve been using fatwood sticks for decades. There is definitely a variation in quality in the options available. This product performs quite well, lights easily with one match, stays lit and burns completely. I always split the sticks in half or more to get more mileage out of the quantity purchased and they burn better when split. Such is the case with these. I got a good price on a large quantity box . A good move as it will carry through this season often lighting fires twice a day. One split stick is all that’s needed

Eco-Stix Fatwood Fire Starter 25lb box of "fatwood"
Revised 03May'23, exchange received:Well, this one too, short 5lb and again, done with an accurate scale and weighing as received in box as shipped in the manufacturers packaging; meaning the box weight was included in the shorting of contents not being 25lbs.So again, that OEM box - very soft, very thin clear tape that was separated at the ends unlike the packing tape if sent within a Amazon box, their fibrous reinforced tape. If then repacked one could be assured if anything fell out, it then would be in that box.So, one has to decide if then getting ~20lb +- and not 25lb for that price is acceptable.Since the box is not "full" one can't suppose it's that much and sold on volume which would change too since it would then depend on how finely, well split the pieces are - tightly packed. If they read this, I'd suggest packing in an appropriate weight plastic bag, after weighing out 25libs, then seal the bag which would eliminate any water weight loss (again, water runs off of these things if all fully fatwood). If consistently short 5lbs +- consider adjusting the price for 20lbs. since is short 5*5=25; 1/5=0.20; otherwise 20% overcharged and Plus State Taxed.I can suppose if even not additionally boxed, more appropriate packing tape be used so there's confidence no matter the shape of this light cardboard box, and in a bag, the contents are what the OEM shipped.I hope this assists someone in making a decision on what to do regarding this what otherwise seems functionally adequate harvest of "fatwood".==================Original, initial review:The box was very shorted in weight and was not a full box. I weighed it on an accurate scale, entire box, not just the contents and was significantly shorted. I read now it may vary and appears is in the 25% range of shorted. So, yes, one should weigh it, if able, and if it matters to you?I lived in an area that had allot of this and used to harvest it myself. It is literally a (for us) yellow pine stump that once ages, the sap, resin sets up with a smell much like kerosene. Actually, if one cut into old buildings - one would smell it; it was why it was not allowed to use and not kiln dried lumber since then burnt if caught fire like a kerosene soaked building - it was, literally if built with this wood as green then sets up like this.I mention this since want to say I am not new to this and used to harvest it.Different sources may have different densities of the resin that sets up.I know that wood in general fluctuates in weight due to moisture content. This wood has little and if a corporation selling by weight would have a meter to informs the percent moisture. The thing is - then, in most any other "non-dry" environment, low humidity, the weight would only go up, not down. One would be getting boxes with 3 to 4 lbs more weight especially in the box since cardboard absorbs ambient moisture as well. So, it "drying out more" is not correct. They need to either sell by volume, a full "25lb size box" or as I presume they do as above know the weight from whatever "factory" they use. Moreover, concerning "water" content, I tested one to see if lite appropriately - it lite, not instantly like some may but it lite and kept burning. We ran water over it after I blew it out. The water runs off, not soaks in - it did not. If it did then, one would be getting wood not fully, or with to much non-fat-wood attached to it. That would also be a problem since I would not pay this amount for "kindling" wood. Also, the manufacturer box is so light and the tape to secure the box so thin it arrived not only unsecured, but the box did not hold it's shape - was more like a stiff bag that looked like a box. It looked like a box that had really had a rough life already and needed to be replaced - even to store this material now. I get that, but then box or bag it to then re-ship it in a container that holds it all together. -- It smelled heavily of what it is, and I may only imagine what folks think when it travels through their shipping system and why not marked as a flammable, hazardous material?I hope this helps, informs folks and maybe this manufacturer or seller addresses this. This is not an inexpensive item. The return, exchange process is okay, but what coming this time?

Great product, horrible packaging
Nothing wrong about this product, received today and tested right away. Some minor smoke, but nothing's out of the ordinary.I would give it a five-star review, if it weren't for the quality of the packaging itself, which is terrible!A piece of advice, have Amazon wrap this in an additional box, just to give another layer of protection!I'm lucky this item arrived in one piece... I may have lost some fat wood on the way, by the way: 22.8 lbs on the balance. Not far from the 25 lbs stamped on the box, but certainly not the promised quantity. Not sure it's worth ordering it from Amazon, to be honest. I'd suggest either the store around the corner or the big box store. At least you can "challenge" them on the spot if you think you're being cheated with the quantity: you just have to bring your personal balance! 😅

Semi ok quality
Ordered large 25lb box, came with mix of great quailty and dried out low quality sticks. Was shorted 2 lbs, customer service was great and replaced the missing weight. Quality in replacement (smaller box) was mostly good sap infused quality fatwood. Would maybe reorder 10lb box.
