** Gave myself 'Retinol Burn' but only because I didn't know how to use it. Now I use it properly.
I'm 54 and this is my experience. This is L'Oréal's HIGHEST concentration of Retinol and needs to be used CAREFULLY, even if you don't consider yourself to have sensitive or reactive skin. Some people start using it with no problems, others get 'Retinol burn' after the first use...and everything in between. The trick is, to use it VERY sparingly and NOT every day, at least not for a while. When I say sparingly, I mean a TINY amount at first. I made the mistake of using it every. single. day. And i used a little too much tbh. HUGE MISTAKE. Upon the first application I felt a very slight stinging or tingling sensation. Nothing major, but I naively thought 'Oh it must be working' lol. I should have not applied again for a few days to a week, until my skin got used to it. Instead I applied it day after day even though the tingling had changed to definitely STINGING and almost burning. After 4 or 5 days of this, I thought I'd better take a break for a few days, but it was TOO LATE. Later on that day the burning pain on my face and neck intensified and it was unbearable. My skin was inflamed, red and felt stiff. It felt worse than sunburn! As it's so hard to get a doctors appointment, I just googled retinol burn and decided to buy 1% hydrocortisone cream to use sparingly twice a day (only for about 3 days to get over the worst) and Cetraben moisturising cream for dry, sensitive skin. The hydrocortisone cream helped a little and I used a good amount of Cetraben to keep my burnt skin moisturised as this is vital during the healing process. (Even though it stung a bit as my skin was so sore) I'd also use a cold compress (migraine gel face mask from the freezer) to press gently on the areas that itched and hurt the most and that really helped. A few areas looked like it might start peeling, but i kept using the moisturiser and although tgere were a few random tiny flakes of skin, that never happened. After a few days I was over the worst. 10 days after 1st stopping the retinol and feeling completely healed I noticed my skin on my face and neck looked and felt firmer. My wrinkles seem reduced. So...I made the decision to apply a tiny amount of this retinol serum to my face and neck again...No stinging sensation whatsoever. I applied some loreal hydrochloric acid night cream over it and I'll use the retinol again in a few days, or maybe a week. I WISH I had done this at the start! ** It's important to mention that I also used this retinol serum on the loose skin on my arms and a few times on my thighs. (I've lost over 7 stone in the past 11 months and wanted to see if retinol might help with the firmness or appearance of loose skin) I NEVER ONCE had a reaction on those areas. Even when using daily. It's early days, but I do see a small difference in my arm skin. I only use a tiny amount, but obviously the skin on my face was too sensitive to the process that my body skin is able to withstand. I REALLY recommend this product. Just please be very careful until your skin adapts. Use the tiniest amount possible and spread REALLY thinly. Then do the same in a few days or a week if you feel any tingling. And use sunblock or very high factor sun cream if you go out in the sun, as retinol (especially this concentrated) makes you more susceptible to sun damage. It's unfortunate that so many people are giving this product bad reviews due to a bad skin reaction. I suspect most people who had a bad reaction used too much serum at fist and/or used it too often at the start. I told my daughter what I'd done and they explained that they only use retinol once or twice a week as they know to use it sparingly. I really do see results starting to happen. It's just unfortunate that I almost give myself a chemical peel in the beginning! Lol.

Effective
I've used loreal retinol products before and have always been great. First time I used this it did sting a little and dried my face out quite a bit. 6 weeks later my skin looks so much better its helping with fine lines. Make sure to use a good moisturiser after. It says not to use near eyes and its not joking I accidentally rubbed it over my eyes and woke up with red stinging eyes had to get cream for burns from my doctor so please don't do what I did. I've had quite a few comments about how my skin is glowing. It every effective at targeting fine lines and wringles. It has a slight fragrance to it but nothing over powering

Excellent. Made some real improvements to my skin
I’m a 39 year old man with a big beard! But, I have got quite a few wrinkles and have pale, pasty skin so often use products to try and improve my appearance. I’ve used this product as directed, introducing it over three weeks. There was some minor irritation and I definitely had dry skin after the first few uses, but this resolved itself after the first two weeks. It’s tempting to use more of the product, but worth sticking to the regime. Combining/following with a moisturiser at the time of application helped. Overall I’ve been impressed. There are definite, noticeable improvement to the fine lines around my eyes and forehead. Skin looks fresher, smoother and very clear. Multiple people have commented that I look ‘well’ and my partner in particular had noticed the texture of my skin around the cheeks is softer and smoother. I imagine if you stopped using this, the effect would go away and I know it’s a fairly superficial improvement, but for a high street product it’s really good and I’ve spent way more before on products with no visible effect. Delighted and will stick with it. Watch the price- it’s often half price either in Boots or on Amazon. If you can afford to buy a couple and keep them to avoid paying full whack, I’d say that’s worth it.

One of my favourite serums
I have used this product for years and will forever use it. Absorbs into the skin nicely and makes it feel soft and Doesn’t feel sticky. I also have sensitive skin that can react to products and my skin doesn’t react to this. It really helps with fine lines and wrinkles with continuous use. And don’t forget to use sunscreen after application.

Awful dangerous product, avoid at all cost!!!!!!
Absolutely awful product! Never react to any creams as don’t have sensitive skin but this has literally burnt my skin off after a single use!! I have never had a reaction like this before and used it according to instructions ( I have also researched retinol use and was aware of potential initial reaction but this was far worse than I could have anticipated) had to invest a small fortune in buying calming creams and mists now as still am in agony and unable to wear makeup as it’s so bad (red, dry and peeling off, looks like chemical burns) I would advise everyone to consider going with a different brand if you still want to use retinol. Also unable to get my money back as Amazon directed me to loreal instead of dealing with the issue.

Very disappointed and upset how my skin looks
I bought the Revitalift Laser Pure Retinol Night Serum as I was looking for a new night cream and had high hopes based on the product claims. The first few times I used it, I thought it was quite nice and light texture and felt smooth on the skin. However, after about a week, I started to notice my skin feeling tight, and whenever I applied my usual day creams or other products, my face would sting and burn. A few days later, my skin started to look very dry and irritated, especially around the eyes. It almost looked and felt like eczema, which I’ve never had before. Unfortunately, this product didn’t work for me, and I had to stop using it. I’d recommend doing a patch test or introducing it very slowly if you have sensitive or dry skin. Very disappointed 😞

Very effective. Yes only 0.2 retinol, so it is not strong, but boy it does work. I use it only twice a week at night after applying a good moisturiser. Defintely works. Skin texture improvement noticed after few applications. Will cause some mild peeling because this is what retinols do. Mild Skin dryness also occured which is also expected with retinols. So no worry. Definetely will buy again. Always remember with retinols : formulation and stability of retinol is more important than the retinol concentration itself. I always trust loreal in making stable retinols.
