Tales of the Forgotten Melodies his the first album of Wax Tailor released in 2005. It became a major album in the Trip Hop / Downtempo history because of the success of the single "Que Sera".

This is a great trip hop/hip hop album
I have a lot to say about this album. This is a great trip hop/hip hop album. It almost tells a story through out the album with the vocal/movie dialogue samples that it uses in between and even throughout songs, but it's hard to tell what exactly the story is, however, that doesn't really matter. It doesn't matter for several reasons, one of which is that the vocal samples put the listener in another era. It kind of places the listener in the 1930s - 1950s and feels like disjointed film noir at times. At other times, especially in the song, "I Don't Know" it almost makes the listener feel like they are having the hallucinations of someone who heard voices in their head 50 years ago, which would probably be off putting if it weren't for the music behind it. The vocal/dialogue samples, especially when they are randomly placed are also kind of reminiscent of the way people talk and think in real life, in that most people will recall a line from a movie in their conversation or thoughts if we see something throughout the course of our day that reminds us of a movie or tv show that we saw. I think this is an especially true thought process of someone who loves movies and music. In using vocal samples this way, the album makes a bit of a commentary on society and our collective or individual psyche and the role that media plays in our thoughts and vice versa. I would say that this album does this particularly more so than other albums that have made use of vocal/dialogue samples. I don't know if this is done intentionally or unintentionally, but either way it sounds very interesting. The music is great and composed and sampled in a way that it progresses not normally associated with the genre of hip hop. The monotony that hip hop is often stereotyped for, is not present in this album, even on the slower songs. It offers a lot in the way of lyrics, themes, singing, rapping, melodies, harmonies, and instrumentation from violin, cello, and bass. It is a great mix and has something that people who are not hip hop/trip hop enthusiasts might like.

Great use of an overused genre
There's a few less-than-great tracks (I skip the ones with traditional vocals), but the good ones are truly excellent- brilliant, even.Great sampling use- in a genre which is easily overdone and, or just boring and tired. I listen to this all the time and never tire of it.Outstanding moments: "I Don't Know", "Ungodly Fruit", "Don't You Remember"All are about the best turntablist/whateveryoucallit things I've heard in years- up there with DJ Shadow and Amon Tobin. If you are going to pick & choose and download a few tracks, those are the ones to get.Major Points for use of Planet of the Apes quotes and mind control themes. Dig it!

Great!
5/5 stars because I absolutely love this vinyl! Unfortunately, it's 11:27PM and I don't want to put too much time into this, to be honest. This album is amazing -- great to listen to when you just want to chill in a dark room with candles lit and listen to some modern beats mixed with random clips from old movies. Good for those with a retro-heart.I love this album mainly because I notice a different part of each song every time I play it. My vinyl came in perfect condition and I have no complaints! Thank you!

Fantastic!
This is one if not THE most fantastic albums I've ever purchased. Every track is a delight to my ears - and someone else said it, but good headphones really bring it out. I don't know what some of the other albums are like yet, but this is definitely one not to miss. My favorite track is the Hypnosis Theme and I often put on my headphones and drift off to sleep. The stereo separation on this album is superb!

A great find, buy it
I'm new to trip hop so can't comment on the genre context, but this is a very original recording unlike anything else I've heard. The use of movie soundscapes and clips, and the self-conscious creation of mood and tone is very clever. This is sampling taken to a whole other level - a collage of collected sound - that ranges from the sly and humorous to the sometimes overwrought. Standouts are "I Don't Know" and "Que Sera", but most tracks work.

Mesmerizing. Takes you to a different world.
Pandora lead me to this album with the track 'Que Sera'. The rest of the album does not disappoint. It's full of excellent, sometimes haunting melodies and the turntable sounds keep it alive. I actually enjoy the hip-hop tracks but they preclude me from putting the album on for, say, when I have people over for an evening. Still love the album, though, and can't stop listening after several weeks.
