The compass has some nice features, such as a declination bezel and a peephole in the compass body that allows you to see the azimuth and back azimuth when the compass is held to the face, but is inconsistent and inaccurate. It is off by as much as 16 degrees at times. It is absolutely useless for any type of land navigation.

I really like the bottom sight feature. It allows me to sight visually at a point and see the headings without trying to look down on the compass. I have used it several times to verify boundary lines on my property. I will say, that it read about two degrees off from a know reference line. ( This was after making allowance for magnetic deviation in my area of North America. ) Once I established that it was off, I simply factored that deviation into my readings. It allowed me to find a couple of old survey pins I had been looking for, without buying an expensive GPS device.

The needle won't even point to the magnetic north. If you play with it enough it tends to point north but how do you know? Worthless junk, do not buy it!

It is made of refined steel and has a floating oil scale. It is very sensitive to the horizontal height, so small bubbles can be seen and set. There is no battery for the light. Power cord attached. Not disappointed. I use it to find traces. Well made, value for money action and design - much better than department store trash, and not having to worry about batteries like GPS.

You need a microscope to read the manual on how to use it. I returned it because of this. I decided to just use my Garmin instead. It's a beautiful gadget but probably best suited for someone that knows how to use it. I'm going to give it a decent rating because it's not their fault I don't know how to use one so complex.

Sturdy construction, it seems very durable and just what I wanted to kayaking.

Looks good and seems accurate. Instructions are very vague though and hard to understand by someone unfamiliar with one of these compasses.
