Great book with lots of good photos and descriptions. My nephew is 10 and English is his 2nd language. He reads this book with a little difficulty, but it is excellent practice for him, and the pictures help. His big interest is rocks and gems, so I gave him this along with some fossils and a big agate geode. He thought this was the best gift ever.

Brilliant book, with masses of information for the budding young learner! Great for adults too as I learnt alot just by reading the first page - was a christmas present for my 8 year old, but the 5 year old also has caught on. My kids are home schooled, so this is a great addition to their learning, and a child-led environment, top marks!

Bought the book for 12 yr old son, he found it interesting and easy to understand.

This book was purchased as a birthday gift for a child in the 2nd grade. Even though it was shipped from England it arrived in a timely manner. The illustrations are very enticing and fit well with the rocks and minerals I had collected to go along with is book. I think that it makes a very appealing gift and will get the child interested in the topic. I think that she will grow with the information in the book. First the great illustrations and secondly, the information is advanced enough so that she can grow with it as she gets older.

I bought this for my niece who loves rocks and minerals: it is really well produced with text in short chunks, good for the age group and well up to standard for DK books. Hoping she will take after me and become a geologist!
