Slim, concise, interesting--a well-constructed primer
I absolutely love reading about mythology, and I think Norse mythology is having more of a cultural moment these days, given that in the West we mostly encounter Greek, Roman, and Egyptian gods in our schooldays, but not Norse, typically--and then Hollywood came along and started raising our consciousness about the Norse sagas (Maybe Hollywood is the Wagner of the 2000s??). I wasn’t looking for a terribly serious, academic read, so this little book was overall a good fit--interesting, informative, and giving a sound overview of the Norse gods and how they fit into Viking society and mores. I was surprised by how much the author put himself on the page--normally in a book about a nonfiction subject you don’t hear so much “I”. But I kind of liked that, as the author’s deep interest in his subject came through, and I was quite interested in his personal take on the connection he made between mythology and self-improvement. However, one thing I think I should perhaps flag depending onw hat readers are seeking is that the book was quite short. I would say it felt more like a primer--a very suitable introductory text for someone who’s just putting their toe in the water on this subject, or wants some well-written cliff notes before watching the latest Avengers intsallment! It’s priced accordingly though, so can’t really complain if it's not exactly encyclopedic!

Uncomplicated Introduction
I enjoyed reading this very much. A good uncomplicated yet comprehensive introduction to Norse mythology. I would recommend this book as a great start for anyone interested in the subject and also a nice springboard to delve deeper into a fascinating ancient people who still influence us today. Good stuff.

A very intelligently written book.
This book for learning about mythology makes it so very easy on your brain, quite often they are quite hard to read and understand, yet this is written in such a way as it is to the point and gives you all the information you need in a way that is very easy to access and recall. This book would especially suit anyone looking into Norse Paganism as a religion. This would also in my opinion suit students so well who wish to or have to study the norse myths and legends.one other point is that the author has managed to keep you interested all the way through, the soap opera of norse mythology books.

Not convinced that this has been well researched
This book is about the mythology of the Vikings, a people who ravaged various European nations from the 8th to the 13th Century. Yet, on page 11, the author suggests that the vikings descendants were defeated by the Romans. The Roman Empire collapsed at the end of the 4th century so how could a collapsed empire defeat the descendants of a people who don't appear in history for another 400 years? I thought it was just a strange mistake and continued reading. Then he tells us about the days of the week that are named after Norse gods; Tyr's day (Tuesday), Thors day (Thursday) and Freya's day (Friday). What about Wotan's day (Wednesday)? You know? Wotan, aka Odin? Not a sign of any reference to the day in the week named after the Vikings number 1 god. At this point, I put the book down and I will not pick it back up. Its a very curious book. Its clearly an on line blog that has been published in book form. The writing style is familiar and chummy (not that there is anything wrong with that) but it is a very, very short book that seems to be padded out with glossaries and indices. Its not worth the purchase. If I could give fewer stars then I would.

A great introduction to Norse Mythology
This book does an amazing job introducing the stories of Norse Mythology in a way that you could tell each and every tale as a memorable bed time story to a little one. It also makes interesting historical notes about how the mythology impacted those who believed in it, and how it continues to impact those living in the modern day. Overall I highly recommend it and I look forward to reading his books on other mythologies!

Best book about Norse Mythology
I really enjoyed reading this this book. It is written in a way very easy to comprehend, especially if you’re just starting to learn about Norse Mythology while still not downplaying anything. The magical way it describes every character and every scenario made my love for Norse Mythology greater. Im also starting to get into Norse movies so having this book as a guide was key to understanding all the Gods, Goddesses and Vikings/warriors.

Historically inaccurate and poorly written
I stopped reading about half way through, after noticing numerous grammar/syntax mistakes. Checking the sources at the end of the book, it appears that the author documented himself on amateur websites. It also contains historical innacuracies.

Really good!
I really enjoyed the other book by this author which covered Greek mythology. It, like this, was really very good. I'm becoming a fan of this author very quickly for the careful way that the books are researched and put together. This book covered Norse mythology and as I have said it is well written and researched. I like the way that the stories are broken down and given context and therefore understanding. They also help you understand the rich history of the Vikings who were ruthless but also a complicated people with some, by today's standards, stage beliefs. The bravery and courage of the fighters are legendary and that is where and how these stories came to be. You can't help get excited about the times and people and of course the gods themselves.I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who is even slightly interested in these people and times.

Great Norse mythology book for beginners!
This seems to be part of Russo's mythology book series, following "uncovering greek mythology" which I thoroughly enjoyed as well as this new one. I knew Norse mythology existed but had no in depth information about it, but this guide opened a whole new world for me. These introduction books are a perfect way to know all the basics to mythology and I'm all here for it.
