Huge umbrella - cover most of my deck
This is a huge umbrella. It covers probably 75% of my deck, which is awesome. It was simple to set up and took less than 15 minutes to get it up and open it for the first time. It looks great too. It goes up very easily as the weight of the umbrella counter-balances the arm nicely. I will say, it looks like it will be very important to support the arm as you're setting it up so it doesn't put too much strain on the base pole. Closing it up is very simple too, just crank the umbrella down and pull the arm back and down. Make sure you use the tie-down and tie it to the pole so the umbrella doesn't sway around so much.I will say that I didn't want to pay an extra $100 or more for base weight for it so I went to my local hardware store and bought some pavers (16" x 16") to hold it down (they weigh 40lb each). I also put a couple 50lb sand bags on top of the pavers and it doesn't move at all. Covered it all up with an old umbrella-table cover I had so it looks pretty nice (the pattern is a little loud though). Also bought an umbrella cover for it to protect it when not in use. I'll take it down and put it inside during the winter when it's not in use.The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of five is the base support pole (that takes all the weight) has a slight lean to it (towards the umbrella side) so it isn't 100% perpendicular to the deck surface (probably around 80 degrees not 90), so I'll have to keep an eye on that. Might try to engineer some kind of support for it while it's open. It would probably give the unit more stability if the top umbrella section pole slid deeper into the base pole.I will probably spray some water proofing on it to protect us from light rains - but I wouldn't keep it up in anything more than a very light rain and win as it won't hold up to much.A great umbrella that I got for an awesome price through Amazon Warehouse!

Directions aren't real clear.
It was a bit of a trial assembling this umbrella. The directions weren't clear and all the drawings/figures were very small.During assembly we actually over stressed the plastic brackets. They didn't break but the stress lines show up as white in the green plastic brackets. We did figure it out and it looks good on the patio.

Huge!
It's BIG! LOVE the vibrant red color too! Was a bit heavy, but I managed! Also, I must not have read specs thoroughly as I didn't know I needed BASE WEIGHTS! They are too expensive! But I managed to make my own! Also, I've only had it a few weeks n the piece that secures the arm is already showing stress as it's plastic.

Plastic parts make this not great... Moves like crazy in the SLIGHEST breeze.
First, I ordered this in April in anticipation of our new patio being installed, which was delayed, so by the time we actually assembled it for use, the return window had passed. If I could return this, I would. It says all over, not for more than 5 mph wind and for sun protection, not wind protection. Well, fine. We bought for sun as the patio is West facing. We also bought the 256 pound base. The base and pole itself are mostly fine. The umbrella sways and rocks and cannot really be secured in any fashion in the slightest breeze. Like, not even 5 mph. And it's not nearly as pivotable as we hoped. Once it rocks, the lever holding the angled part on the pole starts to move. It needs to be able to squeeze WAY tighter. The reason it needs to be way tighter is there is a plastic piece that MUST be lifted before you move the vertical lift mechanism. Once the umbrella starts to move slightly, this piece starts to slide and it's already, after just two uses, starting to warp and deform the piece. Once that piece breaks, the umbrella isn't able to be used anymore. Annoying. To be fair this might be an issue with all these types of umbrellas, but it makes me want to encourage everyone to elect something else. The pieces either need made from metal, or they need some holes and bolts to lock the lever in place at the height of your choosing.

Works as advertised... but not usable in even the slightest breeze
We really wanted to love this product... but the slightest breeze causes it to swing to where it makes me uncomfortable. I'm talking maybe 5 mph. So, it sits on our deck, closed and unfortunately we virtually never use it. It's a shame since it was a fair price and we expected great things.

Tis ok
Overall this is an ok and nice umbrella. Had issues with setting this up and it is a mother to do on your own but it can be done. First thing, an attachment that comes with the umbrella, nearing the area in which you open it, some piece of plastic flimsy bit, it broke off. Not sure if it is needed or if can be replaced, seems to work ok so far without this piece. Opening and closing is a battle but once it is open it looks nice and does provide good shade. You definitely need a sort of anchor to put atop of the base to keep this down or else it will fall over. I kept mine in place temporarily with a peg until I figure out that part. Without it being grounded and if you plan on moving it around to provide shade in different areas, it will be a chore and not easy since it is not light enough for that purpose plus it is a bit top heavy so you wouldn't be able to just move it and open then leave in place without risk of it falling over. I bought this in gray but from looking at color via online thought it may be more a dark charcoal gray which would have been nice but turned out not to be as the pic had shown. Bought this originally to be able to move to areas as I needed or would like shaded, it does indeed serve for that purpose and looks nice once you have set up but not for moving around easily. Also just be careful when opening this bugger and requires some "mustard".
