I've been a fan of the hitchhiker's guide series ever since I first heard it as a teenager and owned at various times the cassettes of the original radio series and Douglas Adams's audio book narrations of the same. This collection neatly compiles every BBC radio series together in one neat presentation box. The box is solid bookshelf fare and contains each series in its own dual CD case which is a nice touch as I was expecting minimalism given the way cd's and DVD's are packaged these days. In the first and second series namely the primary and secondary phases, bonus disks are included as well, these bunded with the remastered versions of the series episodes from 2004-05. You also receive an extra CD with an interview for BBC radio 4's book club. All this is great, however the first and second series are in mono audio which is very disappointing as I bought these precisely because the recordings on Audible are in the same mono format. This takes away a lot of the enjoyment from the productions of these great dramas when you consider the remastering that was involved, and to find this defect in packaged product is even more galling. If its the primary and secondary phases you're after, you may need to buy these separately to supplement this otherwise fantastic collection. Five out of five for the shows, however 3 out of five for the presentation.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has been through so many variants, the original radio play, the books, the television series and the film but the original is still the best. For years I had some old cassette tapes (remember them) of the series but age and deterioration of the tapes led to their demise and I have always wanted a replacement. Now I have that with this CD set with all the original cast. Brilliant and the answer is always 42.
