A spooky delight!
These cookie cutters are really, really gorgeous. They are a stamp on one side and a cutter on the other side, and both work quite well in their four different designs this set includes. They also give you a little recipe book for a cookie dough, though you can use your own as long as it keeps the shape after you bake it. They advise to stamp it when it's soft and refrigerate it a little before cutting it, as to maximize the efficiency of both ends of the piece. I found this tip to work best after trying to both stamp and cut on room temperature and refrigerated dough. They come out of the oven perfectly crisp and delicious with the stamps intact (as long as you pressed the mold hard enough on the dough before baking). The tricky part comes when you want to frost it. Make sure you use really liquid royal icing to fill in the wells, otherwise you'll have a rather amateur looking cookie. Give yourself enough time for icing them and you shall have a lot of fun doing it. They might come out so pretty you won't want to eat them

Big hit!
I love these cutter/stampers! Mine came with a recipe booklet. The recipes look pretty standard, but I elected to use the one posted by another reviewer because it was a shortbread style cookie (no leavening) and I thought it would do a better job of preserving the stamped lines in the dough than the baking-powder leavened recipes in the booklet. Tips: Follow instructions provided in the booklet! If yours is missing: Roll the dough between sheets of parchment paper. Chill the dough before stamping & cutting. Dip cutter/stamp in flour each time you use it. Stamp first, then cut out to avoid distorting the shape of the cookie. The lines will fade when you bake them, so make sure you stamp them deeply. These look so nice you wouldn't have to ice or sugar them at all. If you want to be precise about icing, you'll need a collection of small icing tips. I was most successful with #01 tips. I used Royal Icing which looks good and dries hard but (in my opinion) tastes awful. That didn't seem to stop anyone, though! My colors were pastel because I don't like the bitter flavor that food coloring imparts. Next year I might try using natural dyes--beet root powder, hibiscus flower, etc. I might also try a different icing to see if I can strike a balance between durability and flavor.

Awesome cookie cutters!
I love 'em. These are really cool looking and I use them all year round because I'm weird. Make sure you get a sugar dough recipe that doesn't spread or puff up too much (I used one that I got off of warpzoneprints.com, but I think you can also find one at the Fred and Friends website, or there are some listed in the comments here). I stamped my cookies before baking and the patterns didn't fade too much, except where I didn't stamp very deeply. I haven't tried stamping after baking, but I plant to try that next time. I also want to try these with gingerbread cookies and pre-cooked sheet brownies too (like this blogger: http://www.hungryhappenings.com/2013/10/sugar-skull-brownies-day-of-the-dead-food.html). The basic sugar cookies look fine without frosting, but you could certainly dust them with powdered or colored sugar to make the details stand out more. One side of of the cookie-cutter cuts the skull shape, and the other side is the stamp. I found that sometimes my dough stuck inside the cutter, but if I held it just over the baking sheet and gave it a little smack, the dough would pop right out.

Fun and Easy to Use!
This are awesome and so easy to use! I love that it is a dual-function: stamp and cutter. Only complaint was one of the stamps was damaged (smashed/deformed) due to poor packaging and rough shipping/handling.

Cute, easy, bonus recipes included!
These were so fun to use!! Definitely have to make sure you don’t roll out your dough too thin to avoid the stamp breaking through and ruining the cookie. Use enough flour/powdered sugar between each use to avoid dough sticking to the stamper. But otherwise, they worked great and cleanup was easy! These also came with 3 cookie dough recipes which was really helpful and tasted great! Had to go online to find a royal icing recipe but other than that, the sugar cookie recipe was a very cool plus to find in the package.

Work Well
I bought these for Dia de los Muertos brownies my son wanted to take to school for a fiesta in his Spanish class. They turned out pretty well! The cookie cutter/stamp is easily cleaned in the dishwasher. They provide a good size treat.

So much fun to decorate!
I've made several batches of these cookies and my friends went crazy! They are very detailed designs so it's easiest to use a toothpick to get the frosting into the tiny grooves. I used regular store bought cookie icing and food coloring. I added a few drops of water to make it thinner and it runs into the cracks really nice. I would recommend flouring the cutter before cutting each cookie. Also lightly flour the stamp side before pressing into the cookie. I followed the basic butter cookie recipe on Fred's website and they were delicious. I also altered the recipe and left out 1/4 cup of flour and replaced it with cocoa to make a batch of dark cookies that can be decorated with light colored icing. The possibilities are endless.
