If you have fine 4c hair that tangles easily….
I have to say this…..I absolutely love my natural hair. I love my African blood and they hair it gave me. My hair is 4c and very, very bulky. As it has grown, it became a chore to manage….I have to cowash it just to get it into a ponytail. It is in the middle of my back and detangling takes a lot of time. Other than fairy knots, my hair is healthy. I cut/ trim my hair three times a year to keep the ends healthy. When I try to do a silk press, the results last about 48 hours and then I’m back to a ponytail. I wanted to do something to give me a little more styling versatility and to make my hair a little easier to manage. I follow a stylist who specializes in natural hair…..Jennifer Cynthia out of London(I think)…and she made a video detailing this process (YouTube). She is an amazing stylist so I decided to take her advice. (She specializes in 4c hair so I didn’t need to be convinced too much.). I read up on the science behind this process. It isn’t permanent, which I LOVE. It doesn’t raise the pH of the hair like chemical relaxers. It doesn’t break the bonds of the hair strands…..it is similar to keratin treatments, but without the carcinogen formaldehyde. This procedure uses amino acids and glycolic acid and heat to help loosen the coils texture and and make the hair more amendable to conditioning treatments. I won’t go through the entire process, but I will say that I didn’t go as hot as the instructions recommended. 400 and three to five passes was all I did. I did it myself……..I am not a stylist but I do follow instructions very well. I wasn’t worried about hair breakage because my hair is very healthy. I did a pre shampoo bond treatment before I started. My hair is SILKY and moisturized. I can’t describe it any other way. It is SLICK without adding excessive styling agents. The hardest part of the process is the flat ironing in small sections. My hair is fine and thick….so it took a long time to finish. This is supposed to last 8 to 12 weeks…..I plan to take a look at it again in November and see if I need to redo the process. One of the women who gave a testimonial said that she got the treatment three times a year. She can wear an Afro, straight, braids…..all without losing her natural curl pattern. I am looking forward to it. Update: This product is AMAZING!!!! I reapplied the product in December….the amount of length that my hair retained is insane! I wash, deep condition and use a blow drying brush to straighten my hair…..if that’s what I want. If I don’t blow dry it, my hair retained its natural pattern, just a bit looser. Detangling is a dream…..yes it still gets tangled but the fairy knots are gone. My ends are much healthier and the styling versatility is a dream. My hair is thicker….due to less breakage I’m guessing. For my second treatment, I applied closer to the scalp and less on the ends since my hair was still relatively soft from the first treatment. About 12 weeks between first and second and my hair feels great. My ponytail is heavy….if you understand what I mean. I use bond repair shampoo and conditioner as well as pre shampoo treatments and bonding oil…….just as a precaution. I’m not sure if that makes a difference but I know my hair doesn’t need a lot of product anymore and it blow dried without hair breaking off. This is the real alternative to relaxing that I was looking for. Your what will not stay straight once you get it wet….that needs to be clarified….but it does hold a silk press or a blow out(what I do) without instantly getting frizzy. 10 Stars!!!

Great alternative for a relaxer
This actually works! I have curly-coily hair that was not staying straight after blow drying and flat ironing. It really cut down on my blowdrying time and I'm able to flat iron my hair at 300 degrees on my flat iron.

Came spilled
Came spilled and opened. Packaging is poor, but the product works well. Will be ordering again, but from another vendor/company with better packaging. UPDATE: I initially only gave 3 Stars because the product was spilled, but after 2 months of silk presses my hair looks AMAZING. I haven’t tried a wash & go since I got it. My curls still looked intact after my first wash though. My first silk press lasted 6 weeks with not touch up. I’m on my 2nd silk press and it’s been 4 weeks I just curled it & I think I can carry it out 4 more weeks. I’m IN LOVE. I’ll add another star lol. Last edit. I’m on my 3rd silk press and I love it. I see my texture coming back, but it’s not reverting. My curls were fine when I washed it. It retaining length very well and looks healthy. I ordered 3 more kits and THEY FIXED THE BAD PACKAGING. None of them leaked to out. My hair has been straight and looking great since the beginning of January and it’s mid April. Now I’m sad because it’s unavailable. I wanted to order more to keep them in stock. I lied. Another edit lol. We are 3 1/2 months and washes in & it rained and was 95% humidity and it puffed up a little (not bad at all). I’m going to try to see if some dry shampoo and my blow dryer brush can fix it.

This product is a game changer!!!!
Wonderful Product! This product made my hair grow and changed the texture. People thought I had a lace front because my hair was so silky and disciplined! LOL I'm having a hard time finding the product these days, FYI.

Good Product but Poor shipped
I really enjoyed this product. However it was not packaged properly and some of the products ended up spilling. Amazon offered a return but I ended up keeping it because the price of the product went up and I really wanted to try it. Aside from that this product really works. I makes your hair really manageable and so soft!

I wish I had known about this product years ago
After months of contemplating if I should try a texture release, I decided to just go for it after seeing a British girl on YouTube (Keratin&curls) use the Avalon texture release to make her tightly coiled hair more manageable. At first, I was so hesitant because I felt like I would no longer be considered “natural” but at that point, it was merely about practicality. My hair shrinks up so bad that I started to hate it because of how hard it was to detangle and it was leading to so much breakage. I’m happy to have found this product, I will be using this 3 times a year. Please read the instructions carefully and if you’re doing it at home, make sure to not make any plans that day because it will take up the entire day.

Stay Away If You Love Your Hair
This is probably the worst product that I have ever bought for my hair. I have used a plethora of Avlon products all of which I have loved. This product needs a refresher/new formula. Not only did my totally natural, silver hair become brittle when my stylist applied the line, my hair turned an awful gold. We are still trying to get my hair back to the true silver that I had before this debacle. My stylist followed instructions but for some reason the product did not work for me. Granted my stylist is rather new to the business (I’ve used her about 4 times for services) she was broken hearted about how my hair looks. I am not blaming her but this is not a good product for everyone. With a lot of TLC, my hair will regain its majesty after about 3 more sessions of using purple shampoo tons of moisturizing conditioners. All I can say is buyer beware.
