The mystique of thunderstorms explained!
My son was afraid - well, terrified - of thunderstorms as a young child. This book so clearly explained what a thunderstorm is that he became much more curious about them and definitely less afraid. The illustrations are delightful as well as helpful. As he got older he was able to grasp more of the details. He remembers this book as one of his childhood favorites and just bought it for his nephew's birthday.

Interesting book.
I bought this for my 7 year old and it's a bit complicated for him, both to read and to listen to. For a Level 2, it's surprisingly complicated, not that that's a bad thing, per se, it's just for a 7 year old I was looking for something of a quicker read. I do look forward to bringing it out again next year.

my nieces love this book! 3 and 5 years old
My (newly) 5-year old niece shows an interest in science, and since I view it as my duty to increase the number of women in STEM, I wanted to give her a nice headstart and explore her interest with her! This has some super scientific details, but both her (and her newly 3-year old little sister) eat it up. They love the hurricane book too. I'm sure some of it goes over their head but they pick one or the other every night.

Great book for little ones understanding storms and so on
I purchased this book for my two grandsons, ages 3 and 5 years old. The younger of the two sometimes gets really scared when the thunder rolls and the lightening flashes. We've explained to him what is happening, but this book was an excellent "hands on" explanation of it, along with the pictures. It has helped the little one so much. The older grandson is interested in the weather in general, and is always ready to learn something new about it, and so was happy to have the book. The book fit both the boys very well.

She has gotten a lot better, but about 2 years ago it was awful
My daughter is 8 and has always had anxiety with the weather. She has gotten a lot better, but about 2 years ago it was awful! She would shake and tremble anytime it rained. If it stormed, she was crying. It was pitiful. I got her this book hoping it would soothe some of her worries and it did. She still takes it to her Dad's house over the weekends.

not fir children...
this reportedly children's book places fear of being killed from lightening as more information than a simple understanding of thunder and lightening. the book describes animals such as cows as also in harm's way. i definitely would not read this story to young children.

Love it
My 5 year old boy has loved this book for the last two years. He first checked it out at school and we finally bought the current version. It's easy for kids to follow and explains the concepts of lighting and thunder well. If your child is interested in weather topics, this book is a must have!

Awesome book for teaching children about thunderstorms
This book is wonderful for preschoolers to learn about thunder and lightning, how it happens, and precautions we should take during thunderstorms. We checked it out of the library several times because my boy kept asking for it. So, I just bought it for him. It's one of his favorites, and he retains the information about the safety rules of lightning.

Good
A good book, very informative about thunder and it puts it all in child friendly words so it's understandable. I have two of these books and would recommend.

For when you don't know the answer ...
I bought this book (and 'Gravity is a Mystery') when my son asked me what caused lightening and I didn't know the answer. This book satisfied his curiosity. He loves both books. We read them as bedtime stories!

A brilliant series of science books
I really like this book. It clearly explains what thunder and lightening is, how to estimate how far away a storm is by counting how many seconds between a flash of lightening and the crash of thunder, how to stay safe in a thunderstorm and to learn to respect the force of nature. It presents the subject in a very child-friendly way (as do all the books in this series) and contains oodles of bright illustrations to help visual leaners to understand the subject just as much as reading the text. Is only 32 pages but jam packed with fun and facts!
