Another beautifully written story from Jessica.
As a big fan of Jessica's books I was eagerly looking forward to her new release, with the special extra attraction of learning about hedgehogs, the little animals which I love. From the very start, I knew this book was not going to disappoint and it definitely lived up to my expectations. Not only did I buy the kindle copy but also the audio, which allowed me the option of reading whenever I could, but also listening when I was on "kitchen duty" . It is lovely to have someone reading to you whilst ironing.....It makes the task much less tiresome! This book is a wonderful story into friend and family relationships. Sam is a person who always tries to please but as far as her mother is concerned, this seems an impossible task. Nothing Sam does or says is good enough for her. Fortunately, both her dad and gramps recognise what a lovely caring person she is.She had to cope with the devastation she felt when her cousin (and best friend) was marrying the man she loved and also she was bridesmaid at the wedding.......Something no-one would want to face. However, her life changed completely when she unexpectedly meets Thomas, a very lonely widower and someone who basically doesn't want anyone in his life. But in a short while they form a lovely relationship and through him she is able to rekindle the enthusiasm she had for hedgehogs when she was a child. Sam also finds a new love interest, also in unexpected cicumstances.I don't want to reveal any more of the story but I will say that this is brilliantly written book. It will set your emotions on fire. You will feel tearful at times (so get the tissues ready), also parts will make you feel angry, but happiness is also there to cheer you up.Jessica always writes with such feeling that you are soon drawn into her heroine's life, with all it's ups and downs.I would encourage you to read this book, or listen to it, or both as in my case, and enjoy this wonderfully written story. I am looking forward to revisiting Hedgehog Hollow when the 2nd book in the series is released.

Another heartwarming story from Jessica Redland
It's lovely to read something new by Jessica Redland, and this book is a treat. Set in the stunning location of the Yorkshire Wolds - one of my favourite places - this novel has it all. It's the story of Samantha and her truly dysfunctional family. Her mother is seriously appalling and treats Sam with contempt. She's always on the side of her sister and her sister's beautiful daughter, Sam's cousin, who used to be Sam's best friend. On the day of her cousin's wedding, Sam is forced to admit that she's still in love with her ex. Unfortunately, he's the man her cousin has just married! Oh, that doesn't go down well at all...No one listens to Sam's side of the story about anything, and if it wasn't for her father I really don't know how she'd cope. Luckily he's a lovely man who adores his daughter, but his voice of reason is always drowned out by the spiteful outpourings of his wife.Samantha's life changes when she gets lost on the Wolds and stumbles across Hedgehog Hollow. There she meets Thomas, and that meeting is the catalyst for everything that follows. Thomas is a lonely widower, still grieving for the loss of his darling wife, Gwendoline. It was Gwendoline's desire to turn Hedgehog Hollow into a hedgehog sanctuary, but she died before her dream could come true.Thomas has lived alone for so long he's almost forgotten how to talk to people, and he's determined to keep Sam at arm's length. Sam wonders what, exactly, she can do to get through to him. This is such a lovely, heartwarming story. The relationship between Sam and Thomas is beautiful, and had me in tears at several points during my reading. I felt furious on Sam's behalf over her treatment by her truly vile mother, and her hysterical over-the-top cousin. I also felt that various other members of Sam's family were weak and let her down badly. I was so glad she had a father she could rely on and turn to, but I could well understand her friendship with Thomas. They are two lonely people who need each other, and it was lovely to see their relationship blossom and how that all played out - although it's also very emotional, so be warned!I've loved all of Jessica Redland's books but this is definitely my favourite so far. I loved everything about it, and I really felt at home in the setting of the Wolds, even though I always liked Whitsborough Bay. I'm so glad there will be further books in this series and I can't wait to read them.

Heartwarming lovely story
Jessica was a new author to me , a friend told me about her & I was glad that she did , I loved everything about this book loved all the characters , I love hedgehogs, and have them in my garden , I built a house for them & many a time I have found one eating the stray cats meat (not fish) him standing by the bowl not amused whilst the hedgehog munches away on it. I loved Sams relationship with her grandad & Tom she found them interesting & enjoyed their company , they saw in her what she couldn’t see , I felt sorry for her everything seemed to go wrong in her life & having a difficult mother didn’t help although , she had a loving dad who was always there for her , such a lovely story I didn’t want it to end and was glad of the second book

Good deed brings joy
Liked the story of Sam and Thomas and how they met when Sam discovered Thomas collapsed in his house and the story of him and his late wife Gwendoline. Thomas told Sam about his and Gwendoline's plans to make their house into a hedgehog sanctuary but how his wife's death stopped that turns out Sam and Gwendoline had met when Sam was a child this broke the ice for them. The family turned on her because of a nasty great aunt and she would have been alone for Christmas but she spent it with Thomas who then past away he left everything to Sam as long as she carried out his wishes she's helped by Josh a vet who also gives her seperated Dad a job. They have to fight off some greedy distant relatives of Thomas' but with his lawyers help does that. Chloe and family make up with Sam all except her Mother who told her she never wanted her that's what ended her marriage Sam 's Dad meets Lauren Sam's boss and Josh's aunt all ends well
