Better than expected
Marine emergency flares have been a bane to boaters for a long time. They need to be replaced every 3 yrs., are expensive, are made from hazardous materials, are illegal to dispose of easily and illegal to use unwarranted. I was glad to see the USCG authorized use of the LED devices but expected them to be cost prohibitive. When I saw the ResQFlare offered I jumped at it and must have missed the total description. It arrived along with an entire kit containing a 2nd LED strobe to attach to a PFD, a quality signal mirror, a 3'x3' distress flag/banner (grommeted with ties) and a dry bag to keep it all together. Wow. Strobes are very bright with magnifying lenses. Hand-held strobes a repeating SOS. Well worth the cost as insurance.

Not that bright
Dunno about the US Coast Guard's opinion - I can't see this being any kind of substitute for an actual flare. A single LED winking through a lens of acrylic. Not even a strobe.

Great bargain compared to flares
ACR makes durable products. I’ve had several their small lights for over ten years. No battery corrosion and they all still work. I will be happy to never buy flares again!

Emergency use only, Coast Guard approved
We haven’t had to use these yet, thank goodness. But they are perfect to have on the boat if you ever got into a situation. Necessary to have if you’re crossing over to the Bahamas as you will not see land for a while. Coast Guard approved, which is very important. You never wanna mess around with your safety.
