Chicago. Another town, another scam for vagabond Bill Dancer (James Belushi) and the curly-topped orphan (Alisan Porter) he's raised since infancy. This time, Bill hits the jackpot: His newest con whisks them both from the poorhouse to the penthouse with lots of laughs along the way. From hitmaker John Hughes, Curly Sue also stars Kelly Lynch as an attorney who falls for the plotting pair and takes them home. It's all too good to be true, until her jealous boyfriend (John Getz) intervenes. Pat Collins of WWOR-TV/New York pronounced Curly Sue "a feel-good comedy," and with Hughes' wisecracking wit and tender touch, it's a prize entertainment for one and all.

A fantasy with a beautiful music score
I'm surprised I never saw this movie until now. I love most movies set in my hometown of Chicago. This one is, as Roger Ebert put it, syrupy and sappy and the story is pure fantasy, but it works. The opening scenes with James Belushi tenderly caring for a sweet little girl tug at the heartstrings, along with the beautiful, poignant music by George Delerue. It took me a moment to remember where I'd seen Kelly Lynch before. She plays a glamorous lawyer in this film; she was the glamorous doctor in the original "Road House" film. If you are looking for a feel-good movie, this is it.

Cute movies from the 90’s
Curly Sue is a cute movie. The young child actress is great and has a beautiful voice. I watched this with my two daughters for movie night as I remembered seeing it as a child. They loved it!
