How long will these diamonds last?

Very long time. Just keep it clean and it will work fine for a very long time. I haveone I got 2004 and it still works fine. And it’s still flat.

Is the extra coarse stone different on both sides

This sharpening stone comes with two grits - coarse and extra course. One grit is on one side of the stone and the other grit is on the opposite side.
