Great Continuation from the Original Comics - Longtime Fan Enjoys!
I was a huge fan of the original comics - although I kind of fell off the wagon after they introduced Klara - so I was a little wary that they were going to bring them back.Turns out I was worried for nothing! In my opinion, this is a faithful and honorific reintroduction into the world of the Runaways. Everyone here seems to be portrayed accurately and it does a nice job of gingerly bringing readers up to speed with what's been going on with the Runaways since we last saw them... without beating them over the head with a "here's what you missed on Runaways" recap. The art is lovely and I really enjoy the character designs of the Runaways as we see them now, years later. The plot is fun and interesting and keeps you on your toes. The writing is excellent - Rainbow Rowell does a good job of writing "young" people without making them sound like terrible, annoying people like a lot of writers do! A lot of authors make it pretty clear they haven't interacted with anyone under 25 in a very long time - Rowell doesn't have this problem. My only complaint is that I wish this book was longer... but that's not really a complaint, just a wish. ;) I'll definitely buy the second volume when it's released later this year.

The Runaways are back!
Brian K Vaughn's the Runaways was (well, it still is) one of my all time favorite comics series. I was bummed when it ceased to be... and many years later am thrilled to see it back! I'm enjoying Rainbow Rowell's take on the characters and am looking forward to what's in store for them in further issues. My only critique is I really do not like Kris Anka's look for Karolina and Chase. I know it's a completely superficial critique, but both looks make the characters seem over a decade older than they should be and, especially Karolina just doesn't look like herself. She used to have a casual, hippie-lite style - jeans and cut off/sleeveless t's and now she dresses like bad She-Ra Cosplay, so it threw me while reading it because I had to keep reminding myself that this is Karolina even though it doesn't look like or resemble her. But again, completely superficial critique, otherwise I love the book...

A Beautiful Revival Series
Rainbow Rowell and Kris Anka present a gorgeous revival of the classic Marvel series Runaways. Years have passed since the super powered teens ran away from their evil parents (a secret super villain organization called the Pride) and the heart of their team (Gert) died tragically. Now with the former friends splintered a catalyst will dramatically bring them back together: Gert back from the dead. Lovable jock Chase has managed to alter the time stream to save his girlfriend from her dark fate but in so doing has thrust a strange new existence on Gert where her friends and the world around her have all continued on without her. Inspired by Gert's return, Chase and Nico Minoru decide to gather the rest of the Runaways to reform their surrogate family. With Karolina, Molly, the head of Victor Mancha the android, and Old Lace the velociraptor, the team is back on the road and together again. Between Rowell's great character work and Anka's gorgeous artwork this is a revival that more than lives up to the classic original run.

Rowell + Anka + Runaways= Perfection
I have loved Runaways for years, and Rainbow Rowell and Kris Anka are basically a dream team. Their love for these characters is obvious, and they’ve crafted a fabulous story of complex people coming back together and finding out that even if you CAN ago back home again to your crumbling secret hideaway, nothing is quite as easy as you wish it could be. As a longtime fan of the characters, the story sings, and I’ve used this trade to introduce new readers as well who have been equally charmed. I hope Rowell continues on this book for many, many more issues!

If You Loved The Original, BUY THIS NOW
This is the sequel that I have been waiting for since the series got mishandled and subsequently cancelled. Rainbow Rowell shines in this lovely continuation of one of the most popular and original titles to have come at the turn of the century. The characters are similar, yet different from the ones that we have left behind courtesy of events that have taken place such as Avengers Arena and A-Force. The story is a classic 'getting the gang back together' arc that has your refusal of the calls, but features and old favorite. The art is perfectly suited to the storyline, and they handle Old Lace like a pro. I cannot wait to see where this story goes, and even if the road is bumpy, I am completely optimistic about th future of this title in these very capable hands.
