Great price for a real Ryobi battery.
If you need extra battery packs and want the real Ryobi brand rather than a knock-off, without paying the ridiculous hardware store prices, look no further. I have a ton of Ryobi tools in the shop that I use for light applications that get used extremely frequently in a hot desert environment so I tend to always need new batteries, which can get expensive. I have bought a few of the knock-off brands over the years, but have always had mixed results with power level, charging time, and overall build quality and longevity. But this time when I was on here looking at another battery I saw this one at a much better price than my local big box hardware stores, and since I didn't need a huge battery size for this cordless drill we keep in the house, I decided to go ahead and get the Ryobi brand vs a knock-off. It was the right call because it has already outperformed and outlasted the last knock-off battery I bought 6-months before picking this one up. If you want reliability and solid performance out of your tool, I would recommend buying Ryobi's batteries for sure. I still use the knock-offs you can find here on Amazon for some of the other Ryobi tools that need much bigger packs, but only because I didn't want to pay the price difference between the two brands (which was big), and because they are used in much rougher settings where the batteries will get trashed no matter what brand they are.

Won't charge if cold
NOTE: Previous review was second failing Ryobi ONE+ .... so I bought one at Home Depot for an extra $20. It had the same problem but it came with instructions and reading them it said if the battery was too cold it would not charge and would report bad battery. I inserted and removed the battery about 10 times because each time it tries to charge to about 10 seconds. Eventually it started charging. Further it said the batteries were shipped mostly discharged to minimize any LiIon problems in shipping. Who would have suspected you needed info on why just inserting battery in charger would not work. Previous Post. This was my second attempt to buy a Ryobi ONE+ HP 18V battery (PBP002) on Amazon that has failed. It arrived with minimal charge and my charger will not charge it, flashing lights for bad battery. Since this was the second one, I found and borrowed another charger and battery. I tested both chargers with my old battery and the borrowed battery. All four permutations worked fine. Charging failed on this battery with both chargers. I was surprised that this battery and the one that previously failed both arrived with almost no charge. Most rechargeable batteries seem to arrive with at least half charge. I can't know if that was intended or if that indicates an internal leakage that drains the battery during shipment and if that is what is detected by the charger as failing.

Nearly full capacity after 4 years of regular use
I got a pair of Ryobi ONE+ 18v 1.5 AH batteries four years ago; they came with a set of tools and are not exactly as depicted here. Recently one failed so I pulled it apart. One of the "18650" cells had failed. The other four are still good and measure at nearly 1500 mAH each, meaning that this battery was still nearly at the rated capacity. The other one is still working great. I use these batteries pretty regularly, usually one charge per week. I replaced the broken battery with this exact battery (PBP002) and will edit this review if it doesn't work out as well as the originals. I had also bought a couple VANON knockoff batteries, both of which failed before 8 months, and neither ever had its rated capacity (either by testing in a tool, or by checking the battery specs and doing the math.) So I will stick to Ryobi brand batteries, which are clearly a better bang for the buck, despite costing a bit more.
