Your Lie in April Complete Box Set Blu-ray

Awesome
I've watched anime streaming and then again on Blu ray. There was definitely a difference but not like there is between the streaming of "Your Lie in April" and watching on Blu ray on the same video and audio setup. I started up Ep. 1 and immediately went "W-o-w!" Visually everything jumps out of the screen and with the Blu ray the detail, layers and clearness of the sound is such a treat. You can find plenty of opinions about the series content, which I love, but the difference visually and audibly makes the cost of the set a non-issue.Enjoy!

Springtime is on the way…. The season which we first met. A springtime without you…
This is one of the most beautiful films I’ve seen in a long time, it honestly has made me cry several times. I brought it after I discovered YLIA was being taken off Netflix in the USA and I needed to own a copy of this masterpiece for myself. I’m not very musically inclined but the scores in this film are moving. The English dub is fantastic, the artwork can be absolutely breathtaking, the music is gorgeous and whenever I hear those pieces outside of the anime I admit I tear up a little. I wish the box set had more given how expensive it is, but it’s still well worth it to own this lovely story.

Definitely a top 5 favorite anime, with outstanding animation and heartfelt storyline
Of many recent anime series that I have watched on streaming services, Your Lie in April stands out as a surprisingly deep take on surviving childhood trauma and abuse.Kousei Arima is a young piano prodigy who is physically and mentally abused by his dying mother, to be a perfectionist and win in Japan's juvenile piano competitions. Following his mother's death, he is unable to continue playing, due to being haunted by her death and from mental blocks, resulting from his trauma.Enter our heroine, Kaori Miyazono; a beautiful and spunky violinist who forces Kousei to start playing again competitively and with whom he falls in love with, at first site. The first 2 thirds of the anime is fairly light-hearted as you would expect from a juvenile rom-com. There is a love triangle with Kousei's childhood friend Tsubaki, who is athletic, but unfortunately relegated to the "friend-zone" . The story focuses on Kousei's personal growth, as he slowly overcomes his trauma and is able to start playing again. However the story takes a darker turn in the latter episodes, as a life-threatening illness is revealed for one of the major characters.I really enjoyed the interplay between Kousei and his teen rivals in the piano competitions. Their characters are all fully fleshed out, with their drives, ambitions, doubts and insecurities on all display. An added plus, is that you get the hear many great piano pieces (mainly Chopin) being played. It is also one of the few anime's that is very realistic is showing the trials of teenagers on the brink of adulthood and the possible future paths their lives could take. The quality of the animation is amazing, with a golden red and yellow pallet for most of the story. The emotional beats in the story are very strong and affecting, with alot of humor included. By the end of the story, I was fully engaged with these characters and their possible future paths. However, I should give fair warning that the ending will probably have you reaching for at least one box of tissues.Overall, I loved this anime for its quality of animation and its very unique storyline that opened a view for me on the trial and tribulations of young musicians. Two big thumbs up!

Good anime… but depressing
I’ve heard lots of high praise towards this anime, and while I don’t recommend the average person buy an anime of this cost without knowing if they like it, I have a collection, so I bought it due to high praise and to add to my collection regardless. That being said this is a good anime and I understand why it has received such high praise, that being said I’m not sure if I’d rank it in my top 10 or anything but it’s still really good. I thought the characters and story was well done, but for me without spoiling anything, I work in a particular field that makes what happened not exactly the most believable(if you’ve seen the show I’m sure you can probably guess generally what I mean). Other than that which didn’t necessarily cause any negative effects the other thing about this anime is that it is quite depressing, and it’s not exactly one I’d recommend for someone looking for something uplifting. Not that there aren’t some positive and encouraging things that happen it’s just as a whole it’s kinda depressing and if you are prone to letting your emotions fluctuate you may be left feeling pretty lousy after some episodes.

So wonderful, and yet so sad
This series is really extraordinary! It combines some of the most beautiful music with some of the greatest joys and sorrows of the human condition. It also features some of the best animation ever seen in a series---At times it approaches the level of the animation of some first rate movies. And the English language voice actors really bring the characters to life. The characters on the whole are both lovable and frustrating, annoying and interesting---With the violinist, Kaori, being both beautiful and heroic; as we find out that she has made it her mission to save the pianist, Kousei, from his inability to hear the music as he plays. She is the "Star" of the show in more ways than one, and one of the most lovable characters in all of Anime! And while the sadness of the story can be almost overwhelming at times, in the end it is a celebration of life, love and music. And while there are many indications of a sad ending as the story unfolds, it still offers the possibility that there could yet be happiness in the end---And in a way, this proves to be true. The only negatives about the series are that it is expensive. But if you are a fan of the romance genre, or just a fan of excellence in Anime, you should probably not pass up on this series. The other is that the sense of heartbreak and loss is so strong, that it is probably not a series that you will watch multiple times and it could be rather hard to experience more than a time or two. But in that sense it has much in common with many great stories and films. It is truly a sad but yet wonderful series!
