Yes. The unit will display EE1 error code and turn off for safety.

Q: How can I turn this off? I see END and press the power button for 3 seconds (as it says to) it changes F to C, stays on.

When you press the power button it will go onto stand by mode which means it wont circulate and heat up, to shut it off completely you will need to unplug it.if you want to change it from F to C that when you need to hold down the power button for 3 seconds

The unit is rated 120V/800W. I interpret this to mean that the circuit power load is 800W.

Q: Will the clamp fit on the side of an ice chest?

Depending on the thickness.The clips smallest pass through is around 0.50-0.55 Inches. If the ice box is thicker it won't clip on.
