WestmarkGermany Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Cheese Slicer (Red/Black)

Bought especially to slice hard cheese. Sturdy construction allowing a good grip on the handle as you tackle a hard block of cheese. Slicing strip is very sharp and arrived with a peel off protective plastic adhesive tape for shipping. Does a very handy job slicing. Slices of cheese are thicker, not paper thin. I imagine I can adjust thickness by angling the slicer.

I know it's just a cheese slicer but it's the best cheese slicer on the planet. I'm serious. Those dumb wire slicers are all I see in the store anymore and they're terrible. I bought one of these and loved it. Then had to get a second cause no one would use the wire ones if this one was dirty. Then bought a third for my rv. Now my mom has bought two and my sister also! They're good quality, wash up well in the dishwasher and stay sharp! Love the thing!

If you like very thinly sliced cheese for snacks or recipes, you may like the Westmark Cheese Slicer. The pros that I appreciate are that it is made of one single piece of stainless steel with its sharp blade as a smooth part of the rounded-triangular head, so there is no wire to break. Its handle is a hard black polymer with a Westmark signature insert in red. I do not particularly like the handle even though it is meant to be easier on a user’s hands than merely a continuing hard stainless steel handle would be, so some people do favor such a handle.Based on other reviews, I plan always to wash this slicer by hand rather than to use a dishwasher that over time can degrade the blade and the handle. Two drawbacks are that the blade, at least when I try to use it, cannot slice a completely smooth slice all the way along the length of a small block of cheese. A little nib of cheese will remain on the underside of the blade so that you will need to turn the blade over and be careful to trim off the nib to release the cheese slice through the slot. If you do not remove the nib, you likely will break the slice and the appearance of the slice may not satisfy you. The slicer will work well if you keep this in mind.In addition, if you pull the sharp blade over the length of the block of cheese, remember to pay careful attention as you near the end of the block to keep from nicking your hand that is holding the cheese in place. All in all, it’s a win-win as long as you like thin cheese slices, take care of it to maintain the slicer’s longevity, and know how to overcome the modest shortcomings of the Westmark Cheese Slicer. — LDK

I had one like this for about 10 years before it broke at the joint between the black and the handle shaft. This is a bit thicker and firmer in feel, and sharper. I think I made a good choice. It is wide enough to hand thick blocks and works on block even wider than itself. you just have to use your technique to not have the edge of the cheese block come off in a chunk. This is a better choice than wired one, which I have now not used in years, the wire used to break too much. Slices about 2 to 3 mm thickness, a bit more than my previous one, but still good. Overall good and convenient. works better on harder cheeses like Cheddar.

Like the quality but using it is not easy and the cheese slices are very very thin!
