Sage Publications An Adventure in Statistics: The Reality Enigma

I read some interesting articles on Andy Fields' website. So when I had some cash I decided to pick up a couple of his books. Though a little pricey, I like his style of trying to engage the reader in a rather difficult topic of statistics. I am a serious learner-practitioner-teacher of statistics and research methods. Any attempt to break down or simplify this bug bear of a topic is welcome. I spent a couple of weeks reading the first 4 chapters and marked a few explanations and definitions. Someone trying to learn statistics should definitely try to read this book. But you may also want to have a mentor on the side who can answer your questions.

Endlich erklärt ma jemand es richtig und detailliert und dann noch spannend. Würde dieses Buch gerne meinem Statistikprof schenken. Sie weiß leider immer noch nicht was ein Konfidenzintervall ist... liest sich ein bisschen wie ein Roman und ist eher nicht geeeignet für 2 Tage vor der Klausur.

I have been reading this once a week in the bath and it may hve taken me half a year to get through, but I got to the end and enjoy the time. I’m not sure that would have happened with many other stats books. Great story and ending, worth the slog and I suspect along the way I have gained a sense of intuition of stats. Looking forward to the sequel!

Easy to follow even for smart kids.

If you dread soulless text books, don't think twice and go for this book. Concepts of statistics is explained through a story and you will be able to gain good context of the theory in practical situations.However, If you are familiar with the concepts and buying this book as a reference, it is quite difficult to pinpoint definitions and theory, its meant to be read from beginning to end
