good corn chowder - mixed with milk and microwaved per directions
My mom craved corn chowder, so I thought I'd give this a try. When I asked how she thought it compared to what she was craving, she explained she didn't know and that what she craved had been homemade... I made one can by mixing two halves of the condensed corn chowder into two cups, then adding one can of milk, split over both cups, to make two even portions. I was surprised what a full, complete texture this corn chowder has, especially since there is no meat in the mix (there is soy). I heated each portion individually in the microwave for 1 minute and 10 seconds each (total of 2 minutes, 20 seconds) in a 1100 watt microwave. Each cup had a vented lid attached. The second portion did seem as if it wanted to explode, but by having a tight-fitting lid with vent on top, no mess. This multiple 'pop' explosion MAY be why their directions say to stir multiple times even when heating in the microwave. I have microwave soup cups that have removable venting lids, so soup is easy for us to heat, no matter how thick and creamy the soup might be. I feel that this Snow's Corn Chowder Soup has made me a good daughter for helping satisfy my mom's craving. I've used them in the past for their clam juice, so I'm glad to find out their corn chowder is also good.

Better than the competitor that starts with a C.
This soup is better than Campbell's Manhattan chowder. I will get it again. Plenty of little clams, nice flavor. But I'll only buy it when it's on sale.

Excellent
This is the BEST Clam Chowder. Great price per can also. Used Snow's Clam Chowder 30 years ago and it's still wonderful. Couple of hints. Since this is condensed, I added 1/2 water & 1/2 milk. Also, if you like it really thick, add mashed potato flakes about 5 minutes before serving.

Smelled/tasted like it had mold in it.
Smelled like mold and tasted like it. I was afraid of it so I opened a second can. Same thing. Threw all the cans out that I purchased because I was afraid of getting sick. I'm hoping that this was only a bad batch, but I will not be ordering any again.

Needs A Bit of Work
The clam chowder I have enjoyed in Maine is my gold standard. By comparison, Snow's Condensed New England Clam Chowder falls well short of that mark, but its taste is acceptable. I reconstituted the condensed chowder with an equal volume of 2% milk because that's what I buy. The resulting chowder was exceedingly thin, as much because the clams and potatoes were scarce as because of the 2% milk. Using a blender for the few potatoes helped slightly. Next time I reconstitute this chowder, I'll use about half of the 2% milk, add a bit of pepper, and likely toss in some canned minced or whole clams. It's impractical to add potatoes to an off-the-shelf product. As per the above, I reconstituted with a half can of 2% milk, pepper, and half a can of Bumble Bee whole baby clams after draining off the clam juice, in order to convert this clam "soup" into more of a chowder. Unfortunately, the canned whole clams were a bit rubbery. I'll try minced clams next time. I think that Snow's needlessly undershot the mark with this product and should have included more clams, potatoes, and whatever combination of ingredients and preparation instructions that would result in a more robust chowder.
