Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Collection, Vol. 1

Wer schon immer mal die "originalen" Comics lesen wollte ist hier wohl an der richtigen Adresse. Da ich damals noch nicht einmal geboren war kann ich nichts dazu sagen, wie sich die hier abgedruckten Geschichten in Reihenfolge, Format oder Qualität zu den originalen Heften verhalten. Ich bin mit der Serie von 2003 aufgewachsen und lese die Comics jetzt "nach". Aus der Sicht von jemandem der die Serien und Filme geschaut hat ist dieser Run auf jeden Fall eine Bereicherung. Die Turtles haben ihre distinkten Persönlichkeiten schon hier angelegt. Im Gegensatz zu den eher an Kinder gerichteten Serien geht es hier etwas gewalttätiger, aber nicht total brutal zu. Viele Storylines wurden auch in der Serie von 2003 aufgegriffen und sind daher bekannt. Der Zeichenstil ist im Gegensatz zu modernen DC oder Marvel-Comics ein wenig minimalistisch und, ja, leicht ungelenk an manchen Stellen, aber auf jeden Fall mit sehr viel Charme. Das Buch selbst ist von guter Qualität, die Seiten sind dick und der schwarz-weiß Druck ist genau und scharf, auf Farbseiten im inneren sind die jeweiligen colorierten Cover der Comics abgedruckt.

Esse encadernado é incrível para quem quer começar do início e testemunhar as raízes das tartarugas. As histórias deste volume são muito boas, principalmente as três primeiras, que na minha opinião são todas obras-primas dos comics independentes. Aqui elas não comem pizza, não falam cowabunga e nem tem máscaras coloridas. São totalmente diferentes das versões de desenhos e filmes, e igualmente geniais. Ao todo, essas aventuras originais são surpreendentes e ousadas, com arte em preto e branco e narração inspiradas em grandes nomes dos quadrinhos, principalmente de Jack Kirby que os criadores admiravam. O desenvolvimento das quatro personalidades conhecidas começa aqui, em histórias sombrias, com muita violência e sangue, criando uma atmosfera pesada e visceral, feito por dois caras que estavam adorando aquilo e nem imaginavam que fariam grana com essa obra. Mais adiante as histórias se tornam bem loucas, com viajens ao espaço, combates com dinossauros alienígenas, mas ainda mantém o charme e o diferencial que os autores criaram. Podem parecer datadas, mas ainda assim as tenho com carinho, afinal, supomos que tartarugas ninjas são uma coisa bem doida de qualquer jeito, e as histórias abraçam isso. Torna-se imprevisível, você nunca sabe o que vai acontecer na próxima edição =D Ao final de cada história, temos comentários dos criadores, onde eles comentam cada página, as dificuldades vivenciadas durante a criação, de onde vieram as inspirações, sketches etc. Sensacional! E a arte de Eastman e Laird são lindas e estilosas...ao mesmo tempo sombria e cartunesca. Dá pra passar horas observando as páginas com seus inúmeros detalhes. Se você já é fã das tartarugas, mas nunca viu essas histórias, vale muito a pena descobrir de onde veio tudo, ainda mais em uma edição caprichada dessa. E se você nunca foi fã dos personagens, vale uma dar uma olhada, talvez goste dessa versão bem diferente.

Looks great, amazing read. More for teens to adults as this is gritty compared to mainstream adaptation

This book in the eyes of an avid TMNT fan is simply amazing and with the way it's presented and been made as an oversized hardcover, it was never going to be anything other than amazing. contained in this book are the first 7 issues of volume one of the original mirage run, also featuring the Raphael one-shot which comes between #3-4. Even if you are not a TMNT fanatic, but rarther just a casual fan or maybe even sombody completely new to the club, this book is still amazing for sombody who wants to start from the very begining and witness the true roots of the TMNT. The stories collected in this volume are of extremely high quality, particularly the first three, which in my opinion are all individual master pieces. The first shows the origins of the Turtles(which is much darker than may be remembered in other versions) and shows them battle their most famos foe 'the shredder' which had a surprising outcome for those who are completely unaware of these stories, considering his major profile as a villain in other TMNT media. The second features first appearances for April O'neil, Baxter Stockman and the Mousers and the third featuring possibly the most detailed cat chase ever in a comic book. The one shot introduces Casey Jones and then the rest of the issues take the Turtles to outa-space where we learn the truth behind their origin story and meet some mysterious alien creatures. All in all these original story's are quite amazing, featuring some amazing black and white art and story telling inspired by comic greats, maily the work of Jack Kirby who the creators looked up to. Also, the character development of the four well known protagonist' personalities begin to develop for the first time here aswell as some surprisingly gritty storytelling featuring violance and real ninja activities such as assanination however, these only contribute towards a very surreal and gritty atmosphere portrayed in these comics. Whats more, the issues are seperated by annotations and page by page rundowns by Eastman and Laird them selves which give an interesting insight into the difficulties experienced whilst originally concieving the original few issues and the eventual success. So obviously as a turtles fan i can find no faults in the product itself and highly recomend if you enjoy TMNT or are just starting or a fan of comics in general. Put it this way, it saves buying them individually if you want to get into TMNT, particularly avoiding the price of issue 1! my only minor complaint is that my copy was a little battered on thr corners where it must have been based during the delivery, however i can be angry about that!
