Excellent for Clipping Sheep
Although sold as hedge clippers, I used these to clip our sheep. They are very sharp and easy to handle so don't make your hand hurt too much even when using them for a long time. They are able to cut large chunks of wool each time and easily cut through soiled areas. Very pleased with the purchase, I would recommend these clippers to anyone looking to use them on sheep.

Swingy safety catch impairs use & not very sharp
Hate this thing! The safety catch is a little swingy wire that constantly swings back and forth. The scissor action when you're using this tool causes the wire to catch hold of the lock opposite it with each and every movement of use. In short, the device locks itself continuously, so you can't get any work done. There is no way to keep the swingy wire away from its opposing lock. Also, although the blades look sharp, the device will not cut anything denser than dry grass. Tried it on young growth of a box hedge and would not cut. Waste of money.

Durable, sharp, well made, easy to use shears
I have used these shears for a month or so now to trim and maintain the shape of our front door baby yew tree (Taxus baccata). I had initially thought I should just use the secateurs that I already own, but I am glad I bought these shears they are much better and fit for purpose, they make trimming our yew tree easy and a quick 5 minute job whereas it would take much longer if I had stuck to using secateurs. The shears feel well made when you hold and use them, the blades are very sharp and I’ve had no issues cutting through even smaller unruly twig like branches (approx. 0.5cm twigs) as well as the usual small and wispy branches.I only use the shears for short periods at a time and they are very comfortable as a result of their soft grip handles, I can imagine you’d be able to use them for much longer without any comfort issues.I am so very glad I bought these shears I cannot think of any criticisms at all, highly recommended.

Not Fit For Purpose
The Safety Locking Catch is merely a wire hook to latch onto a shaped piece of metal. It was extremely difficult to open to release the blades for cutting, and did not latch when closing the blades. It is poorly designed and dangerous to use. I returned it and got my money back. Then prurchased the Darlac expert topiary shears also available from Amazon. It is not that much dearer than the Spear and jackson shears, and it is a superior and safer design

Excellent
These are excellent. The spring action is a lot easier on the hand than all of the older shears I've had and they seem to maintain their edge well even cutting through wet stuff. I hope they're easy to sharpen as I've had some shears that were never really the same again after being sharpened even when both halves are sharp.Note that the blade is made of carbon steel so oil the blades before putting them away to stop them from rusting.
