Starving the Anxiety Gremlin: A Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Workbook on Anxiety Management for Young People

Not for my 14 year old - neurodiverse
This book was recommended by school sen dept for a 14 yr old, child felt it was too young for them.. childs not verbally able to communicate emotions or anxiety reasons and I thought where it uses cbt, this book would help, it didn’t. All it did was make the child frustrated as none of the reasons for anxiety were relatable to them and now discussing anxiety is their worst thing to do.. it’s also awfully boring for them.I definitely wouldn’t recommend for child with neuro diversity either as most scenarios are relatable anxiety whereas this anxiety is more “an unidentifiable reason” sensory, emotional, historical trauma, therefore its not the best, kids need to be understood for them to trust enough to open up and this book was way off for my child that’s experiencing anx since school age more due to environment but they don’t know why. Unfortunately there’s not a lot support in school for kids that look like they cope, their word that their anxious is not enough.

helping a great deal
This book is really helping to address my daughters anxiety. The main theme she has taken away is that anxiety is just an emotion, like any other emotion and how to accept the emotion. She can now recognise her anxiety - instead of it escalating into full blown fear of something bad happening she knows its an emotion that will soon pass. She reads a chapter a time. Her sleep and moods have improved dramatically. Highly recommended.

A must have, useful, insightful and simply 5 stars.
Strategies and activities which can be used with a wide age range and adapted around anxiety. This is a must have/read for professionals (support workers, pastoral teams, social workers). Also useful for parents struggling to manage teenagers suffering with anxiety. This is a top draw and well written/illustrated. Five stars all the way. Brilliant book/work book.In fact purchased a few times as presents its so good. Thank you.Oliver NashAuthor of The Primate Puzzle

could help some
only helps if your child is slightly anxious. If they have severe issues then they will just get frustrated and angry with this book.

Great workbook, been helpful.
I bought this for my 12 year old who had a lot of anxiety starting senior school. She has found it really helpful and keeps diving into it weeks after she first read it. Whether it is just the book, or life experience, she is doing much better now, no more worried tears! A huge relief for both of us! Would recommend it, especially if just mentioning going to the doctor sends the anxiety levels even higher! Also kids don't like admitting their parents are right...if the same advice is written in a book though, that's a different matter!
