It comes with an adapter that plugs into the back. This is the best location as it allows you to hide the wire, which is very important to me

Q: does this come with the adapter to use in normal house current?

Yes its all included. Though you might miss it when you unpack the house. The house comes packed in a box containing a styrofoam protecting case.The adaptor has been packed in a compartment in the bottom of the styrofoam container . I have purchased other houses like this one and it took me a while to discover it.

Q: How do you turn off the sounds and leave the lights on?

just turn the volume switch down so no sounds come out but it leaves lights on

Q: We are about to buy this house for our kids. What is your return policy if something is missing or broken?

Not sure, but I don't recommend these units. I haven't had one last for more than 3 seasons. Considering the price they charge, you'd think they would hang around at least 5 seasons.
