I bought 3 of these (1 for myself and 2 for my kids) and I'm happy with my purchase. If you want the short version of my review, here it is: this is an awesome first board for kids and adults alike. If you are looking for a good board on the cheap, buy it. And now on to the more detailed review... ## Wheels / Bearings The basic tradeoff on wheels is: softer wheels give you increased ease/smoothness of ride and harder wheels are better for doing tricks and they roll faster. The wheels this board ships with are 99a Durometer (the "hardness" rating) which are on the harder/trick-friendly side of the spectrum. They are 54mm in diameter which is a great all-around size and a good starting point for somebody who doesn't know what they want yet. The bearings are actually pretty good and the wheels roll smoothly. ## Trucks The Trucks came set up pretty much how I like them (though it's subjective and you might want to fine-tune them). They seem to be OK quality. Maybe a tiny bit flimsy but we'll see how they hold up. They are pretty impressive for the price of the board (you can buy trucks that alone cost about as much as this complete board). ## Deck The deck is pretty standard. Seems to have a good amount of stiffness/pop. The griptape isn't bad (which I only mention because the griptape on so-called Walmart boards is a disgrace). The design looks pretty good. ## Summary For the price, it seems like the value here is hard to beat. I wanted to get my kids and I something we could learn on but didn't want to break the bank. This board is perfect for that. All 3 of us have been skating every day and the boys are practicing tricks already.

Bought it for 13 year old. It’s been a long time since I been on a skate board, but I tried it out and I was surprised. For the price it feels like quality.

The neighborhood kids are always zooming around the culdesac on their boards, and the other day I took my wife's Arbor longboard out and just cruised. My 4-year-old son wanted to ride on it with me, so I decided to start looking for a board for him. Yeah, 4 might be a little young, but he does really well on his Mini-Kick scooter and I'll wrap him in bubble wrap, so no worries. Based on the price and ratings, and on my son's preference for this color scheme over the white one (which I preferred, not that it matters), I purchased this Powell board. While it was in transit, we happened to be at Target so I looked at their available boards. There was a line of Tony Hawk beginner boards for about $30, and just when I started to question my decision, I tried spinning the wheels on the TH boards. They barely moved. (By design, I wonder?) When our board arrived (a day early!), I knew I'd made the right choice. My son was excited about the board and couldn't wait to try it. Good thing his Mongoose BMX Bike Gel Knee and Elbow Pads arrived at the same time. He is easily frustrated so his turn on the board didn't last long, so I took it out for a test ride. This board is prettier, sturdier and better-constructed than any board I ever owned (my first board was an inch thick and had clay wheels, for what that's worth), and much less expensive. The deck is concave and completely covered with grip tape, the trucks are firm and the wheels spin freely. (It also comes with a bonus instructional DVD.) I'm 200 pounds and it handles me just fine, so I have no doubt that this will last my son for many years. Barring, of course, the kind of catastrophic accident that often befalls kids' toys. Today one of the neighborhood skater prodigies pronounced it "pretty good," so I am completely pleased with my purchase. If you're looking for a beginner board for any age range, you can't go wrong with this one.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my son. I used prime and was sooo happy not to have to be in Toys R Us, Target or any such place. I did most of my shopping on prime. He is now using it since it is warm out again and it seems to be very sturdy. I never used a skateboard as a kid, but my Husband can ride it without the board breaking and that is good enough for me. This seems like a good purchase for a beginner. My son is happy and so then so am I. On a side note the packing was not so good as the board was sticking out when UPS delivered it and my son saw the board, I told him I was giving it to someone else ( I don't think he believed me ). Amazon gave me a credit for my trouble which I appreciated but that is why I did not give 5 stars.

Powell Golden Dragon Skateboard I purchased this as a beginner. The price was right, and the actual quality of the board, bearings, wheels, and trucks felt solid to me. The dragon design was very appealing as well. The bushings were a medium compound. It felt very stable in a straight line, but was pliable enough for good feel while turning. The board comes with a DVD that has some instructional videos and explained how the board was assembled. I thought the video was mediocre, and there are better instructions for beginners available on YouTube. One of the record holders for ollies literally phoned in a voice-over for a section of the video. After several falls, the board is fairly scraped but everything is holding together. The wood is not delaminating and all of the components are functional. Overall: 5/5 stars
