Fabulous
What a wonderful book. This is the story of a group of people who owned and worked in the Champagne industry, their lives and loves during the occupation of France in the second world war. A fascinating book loosely based on truth. An excellent read

A good read
Would have been 5 stars if the author hadn't given away her American roots by constantly using the word "gotten" in a book where this word would NEVER have appeared in the vocabulary or any one living in England or Europe in this era of history. Get your act together please and proof read these books properly. "Gotten" is an abomination of the English language and completely spoiled my enjoyment of this otherwise really good story!

An odd storyline, not very likeable characters, a twist at the end worth getting to I suppose
I feel a bit let down by this book, I honestly LOVED the book of lost names, and couldnt stop thinking about it for a few days after. I was so eager to read this book by the same author, and within a chapter or two found it was no way comparable. I could not like Ines at all, or Grandmother Edith. Liv was broody, and the 2019 era became a bit too romcom ish. To invent a storyline like this and wrap it all up under the theme of resistance fighting in France feels a bit shameful. It left a bad taste in my mouth, because ultimately the plot was centred on deception and infidelity. I certainly wont read another by this author. The twist at the end was very good, and thats what gets the 3 stars. But honestly, Theo literally was oblivious to the comings and goings, Celine’s pregnant belly was constantly big although she didn’t reach full term. Michel and Theo left the Chateau at dangerous and random times during a war, when the Nazi’s were a stones throw away. Nope, not for me, and all a bit distasteful.

Not just about wine
This is my first experience of this author but it certainly will not be my last. I really enjoyed the various storylines and the characters were all interesting. I read this book within a few days and found myself reading long into the night on occasions. Really recommend this book.

I enjoyed this book set in the champagne region of France.
Set in France in the champagne region during WWII it had a good story of resistance to Nazism, history of the region and good characters.
