Danish Way Of Parenting Paperback – August 9, 2016

I checked this book out of our library so many times that I finally just bought my own copy. :) Thoughtful and insightful, this book has some great messages about going through life for anyone of any age, but giving your children the gift of being able to put life in a "Danish" perspective will certainly serve them well! Since I read this book for the first time a few years ago, I've seen my older kids shift their perspectives and being able to put the techniques into practice from the beginning with my younger kids, it's been amazing to watch them develop patience, tenacity, and empathy. I even find myself a happier person, communicating better, and with a kinder outlook towards the world after taking the messages in this book to heart and I often recommend it to others!It's a relatively short book as well and well laid out by the authors so it's easy to pick out the key points and refer back to it.

This book was fantastic. I have a 20 month old and have been reading book after book on gentle parenting, mindful parenting, Montessori methods, etc. These books all basically say the same thing but this book in particular gets right to the point with actionable steps you can implement. There’s no fluff in this book, it’s a very quick and enjoyable read. And the way it’s written is easy to understand. I’ve read a lot of books about hygge and raising happy kids but something about this book made all of these concepts so easy to understand and apply immediately. It’s one I’ll ask my husband to read as well. It’s definitely a book I’m going to revisit over the years as my son gets older because it’ll be a good reminder of how to manage my own feelings throughout the different stages of childhood.

This book was definitely a quick read, I was wanting a little more content. Overall, some great points to add to a parents perspective. I love the idea of actively teaching empathy. The summary and discussion at the end of each chapter was great to do with my husband, who wouldn't be motivated to read a parenting book on his own.

I absolutely loved this book. I read it in a couple of hours. Everyone knows there's no rule book for kids, or parenting for that matter. This book, and the way the author helps break things down helped me to feel confident that I can be a better parent. I'm currently struggling with a toddler who throws things, hitting, and can't handle "no" without absolutely losing it. It can be frustrating and overwhelming on both his and my part. This book gave me some tips on how to keep my cool, and handle all opportunities with grace, love, and compassion. I've always had a soft spot for hygge and the danish culture, and want to incorporate it into all aspects of my life. What better place for hygge than a relationship with your children! Thank you for this book. It is absolutely loved and appreciated.Update:It's been a couple of months, and I find myself wanting to reread this book to remind myself of the things i would like to changw qnd incorporate into our family life. I feel like I have settled back into the things I don't want to be. I'm very happy I bought this book.

I stumbled onto this while reading Meik Wiking's "The Little Book of Hygge". I found it very enlightening, and I think if you were only going to read two parenting books, this and Simplicity Parenting would suffice. This book is about the authors' own enlightenment: one as an American married to Dane, realizing the cultural differences; one as a native, realizing her country does have its own way of doing things.Some of this just hearkens back to my childhood, before cable, internet, and the commercialization of childhood. Some of it probably never occurred to many Americans, because we were raised with other cultural influences.When I got this , I read it right away, and then immediately read it again. I plan to read it again soon. What I like most is how easy it is to understand. It's two Moms, discussing parenting, education, and children. One happens to be a child psychologist. But it's still just two Moms. Which also makes the insights powerful, as they both experienced the results in their own lives.Buy it. You won't regret it. Unless you WANT a super-scientific, academic book.

I enjoy learning about parenting techniques, styles, and methods of other cultures. I think it helps to keep things in perspective and is definitely good for thought. I've now recommended this book to several people because I enjoyed it so much! I appreciate that the authors didn't spend half the book explaining their education and how you should follow their methods because they are the smartest, most experienced, and have more credentials than anyone else in the world offering parenting advice. I also felt that it was a nice, easy-to-read, high level, big-picture kind of book. There was no "if your child does that, you should do this" sort of instruction. I really liked that it was more about general concepts, like reframing, with relatable examples. I find myself recognizing and thinking about the various concepts and ideas in my everyday interactions with my son much more so than any other book I've read (I've read quite a few), and it doesn't really require any effort to make the little changes in language and perception that I've made. I guess you could say that the book really expanded my understanding. I highly recommend this book!

I really enjoyed this book as I feel Americans put way too much pressure on their children. I love how it reviews how 'laid back' the Danish are in raising children in the sense that they allow their children to explore and figure out their own boundaries - I can see how it will build confidence in children. I definitely would recommend this book to friends or new moms!
