Love this temperature probe.
Wish I would have purchased this earlier. I have another model of Thermapro temperature probe, which works great, but doesn't have the remote unit. I also have a wireless probe from another company that is supposed to communicate with my phone. The wireless probe from another company is finicky in connecting with my phone and frequently drops connection. The other one from Thermapro works great but I have to go out to the patio to see it. This new unit with the remote monitor works great and allows me to monitor meat and grill ambient temps anywhere in home and maintains a strong connection to the base unit. I don't need another app on my phone either. Just set the base near me or clip to my belt. The probe is also very accurate and matches up with my instant read probes findings.

Excellent digital thermometer for smoking/bbqing
I purchased the TP28 to replace an inexpensive bluetooth thermometer received (and returned) as a Christmas gift. The bluetooth thermometer continually would have issues connecting to the app, even when I was standing right next to it - essentially unusable. On top of that, the button cell battery died after only a few hours of use.Enter the TP-28. This thing is everything the other thermometer was not. 1: Simple (no buggy app to install or deal with) - and 2: reliable (never once had an issue with the receive not picking up the signal from the transmitter). I didn't test whether the 500ft claim is truly accurate, but I did take the transmitter all over the house without any trouble picking up the transmitter. As for accuracy, I checked both probes multiple times (before and after my cook) and the one probe was spot on (212 degrees in boiling water) and the other initially read 211 (but later read 212 on my 2nd test).A few minor improvements I'd love to see added in a future version:1) I wanted to see what would happen if the transmitter dies, so I tried turning it off as well as removing the batteries to simulate the batteries in the transmitter dying. Unfortunately, nothing happened on the receiver except an indicator that flashes when data is received stopped flashing. Digging through the manual, it looks like there's an alarm after 30 minutes. For me, this delay is way too long. I'd rather have it be as short as 1 minute to ensure the grill doesn't change outside the set temp range and I don't get notified. It would be nice if this delay was user-configurable. I'd like to be able to use this thermometer overnight for long smoke sessions, and not knowing for 30 minutes if the transmitter battery dies is a bit concerning due to the possibility of the grill temp going outside the target range.2) no way to disable beep when buttons pressed. When you're messing w/ programming the transmitter before starting a cook, all the beeping can get annoying every time you press a button. I wish there was a way to disable the beeping, as you can see the display change when you press a button (so no need for an audio cue as well)3) I think the transmitter's alarm only has two settings: flashing the backlight and beeping. I wish there was another option: off. When smoking overnight, it's nice to have the outdoor alarm be silent, so it's not making noise that could disrupt people sleeping in earshot of transmitter. It would also be nice to not have the flashing backlight unnecessarily wear down the battery. These issues are fairly minor, and overall this is an outstanding product. I don't know how I've gone so long without such a device, but thanks to the TP-28, never again!

Excellent for whole birds, and two zone cooking.
This is my second ThermoPro grill thermometer. The product itself is very straightforward, and easy to use. Some folks have talked about how they stop working after a few uses, and I can only think of two explanations:1- They forgot to turn it off, and don't know that batteries run out. It'll probably die after a week or two this way.2- They didn't take it off the grill, before they raised the temp to burn off grease. This is what happened to my last one. I opened my smoker vents all the way, and just plain forgot about the probes. They do not stand up to 650+ degrees very well. I don't think this is an actual defect. However if you're looking for a product that can survive at those temperatures, you'll want something else.I used my last one at least twice a week in the summer, and few times a month in the winter for two years without any issues. I expect the same from this one. It's reliably accurate. Boil water on the stove, and stick a probe in. It'll read 100°C +/- 1°. Stick one one in your freezer, and you'll see it matches whatever you set it to. I actually used one of these to calibrate my oven after it was delivered. They could have designed it a little better. It wouldn't have been much more expensive to store user preferences in nonvolatile media. As designed the temperature alarm preferences are reset every time you take the batteries out. This may not seem like much of an inconvenience, but if you're the kind of person who takes the batteries out after every use it gets tedious.

Very nice unit, but I returned it for a TP20.
I ordered this during Prime Days, after deciding to get this model over the TP20, primarily because no one could tell me if the TP20 came with the probe winders, which was important to me, while I knew this one does. I got it, removed it from the box, set it up, and it seemed to be a very nice unit. But there were a couple of things I was not really a fan of, for one, the magnet really did not seem to be strong enough to hold it securely to anything I attached it to. Second, I prefer to have all the settings controls on the remote unit, not on the transmitter. Something I really did not notice before I ordered it.But before I had a chance to actually try it out, I noticed that the TP20 had gone on sale for $23.99, plus a $5 discount coupon bringing the price down to $18.99!! Just over a third what I paid for this unit. So I returned this unit and ordered a TP20, which I will review once I have put it through all its paces. For anyone who may be interested, yes, the TP20 does indeed come with the probe winders, which makes it so much easier to keep the probes from being damaged. It is very rare that I return a purchase, in fact I have only done so twice in all the years I have been purchasing from Amazon. Like the previous time, it was simple and painless and very efficient.

Not as fancy as other Wifi models, but it works consistently and reliably.
This is my 2nd ThermoPro unit. The first one is 5 years old, but only has 2 probes (1 meat and 1 oven) and I really need more probes. The 1st ThermoPro is heavy duty and performed even in the -40C arctic cold unlike other brands that gave up the ghost in the cold. I expect this new one to be just as hardy. I like that any of the probes can be used for the BBQ oven. I smoke over charcoal so precise temperature & frequent reading is important. I once tried one of those Wifi models that link to a phone app, but I don't like those. I need a dedicated receiver that shows the temperatures at all times and not killing my phone's battery. I've done enough long smokes for pork butt, briskets, etc, to know that fancy features like temp graph over time do nothing for me. I know when I'm reaching the stall, I don't need a graph to tell me.While this unit comes with alarm features, I don't use those. I just need to see numbers. It comes well calibrated. I tested the probes in a boiling pot of water and it was pretty dead-on. It doesn't matter which unit (transmitter or receiver) you turn on first, they will sync together. I had other brands where the order was important. Transmission distance is good for me. The receiver gets readings from anywhere in the house. There's not much more to it. This scores on all points I am looking for. Accurate readings, frequent readings, good coverage, many probes. I am confident it is as durable to outdoor temperatures as the 1st ThermoPro I have, but haven't gotten the polar vortex yet.

EXCELENTE! UN EQUIPO QUE DEBE TENER CUALQUIER BBQ LOVER
The media could not be loaded.

Super impressed
Super impressed with therma pro TP 28B. Was looking at cordless but the reviews on this device was far more superior. This is my 1st time using it and it sync immediately. The only problem is it won't let me Lesson the temp to. Ie: pork goes to 160 degrees F for med and I wanted it for 145 degrees F. Im sure i just didnt do it properly. No matter I just watched the temp and when it came to the temp I wanted I was good. So here is my bradley smoked apple juice with Worcester sauce infused, sweet n spicy bacon wrapped pork loin. It was done to perfection! Oh and the range on this device is accurate. I was at least 300 feet away and remote was working great. Highly recommend. It's too bad that I didn't see the 4 prong on sale before I bought the 2 prong.
