The best purchase we could have made for our dog. Highly recommend.
Absolutely top notch. We have an extremely smart dog who's new to the family. She knows all her commands but being young, she has quite the "selective hearing problem", particularly when in high stimulus situations (dog park, smelling something awesome, etc.). Enter the Dogra e-collar ... This thing transformed our life and our dogs life the second we put it on! Now don't get me wrong...(1) you have to know what you're doing and how to use it, and (2) one day doesn't mean she's trained yet... That takes work. Daily work. But we do have a very effective and useful tool in our arsenal and she is responding exceptionally well to the stimulous. The key here folks is do your homework, and BE KIND! This is not a tool to shock the crap out of your dog in anger, or to punish with zero form of positive reinforcement for good behavior. In fact, from the second we put it on I would say that over 90% of what we've used when training has been the "pager function". This is basically a vibration and has nothing to do with an electrical impulse. Think of it as putting your mobile phone to your neck when it's set to vibrate. Nothing more. Can I nick her with an electrical charge? Sure. But why would I if I don't have to? And even when it IS warranted I use the lowest possible setting to get her attention. Which brings me to my final point... Don't put anything on your dog that you wouldn't try on yourself first. I tested the electical impulses myself and found that I felt nothing until around "20" (on the rheost setting) and noted that different places on my skin were more sensitive than others which makes perfect sense. Your underside of your arm is going to feel it more than the palm of your hand with all that padding and desensized thick skin that gets used day in and day out. The lesson? Your dogs neck is sensitive so be kind and don't just come out of the gate swinging with electicity flying. He/she wants to do the best they can for you. Give them a chance to surprise you. Ours sure did! Additional notes: High quality and durable, great range, and way better than the cheap units most of the big brand pet stores sell. Spend the money to have something that works and lasts.

Magical Dog Remote
I had never heard of Dogtra, but two months in, Very satisfied with the collars. I looked at some that were significantly less expensive, but one review in particular scared me; the owner reported it burned the dog. Frightening! I use this unit on our four month old lab puppies. I would no sooner endanger them, than I would our children. I previously had a Tri-Tronics unit, and loved it. They have been purchased by Garmin. But, for my purposes, their two collar units were unjustifiably more expensive. I’m not a hunter, and just primarily use the collar to keep them safe (obedience), by ensuring they come when I say! If you’ve never used a shock collar before, they are wonderful. It enables our family to go hiking with the pups off leash, roam our acreage, etc. We always maintain supervision, but it enables them to run and play. Yet, ensures they come when called, or stay at Heel. Even if there is a deer, cat, bird, or human that runs right by them. As a further aside, one puppy has only had to be shocked once (no kidding, he gets it!), and just occasionally requires the page/vibrate to remind him. His brother is a little more stubborn, and has been shocked a handful of times, and routinely gets vibrated:) But, it magically makes the dog come back every time! Please don’t misunderstand, you must do the work, i.e., training obedience commands, before you introduce a collar!! The collar doesn’t teach, it just reinforces what they already know. Back to the product itself, love the physical size of the handheld remote unit. And the 1-99 range for intensity of shock. I put the collar on myself, at 25 - 30 it’s slightly less intense than a shock from a 9 volt battery. That range is the level required for the stubborn puppy to respond. The more reasonable puppy has only been shocked at 21, yes, just once. The collars themselves are a good size, not too big, and seem to take a fair amount of abuse inflicted by two wrestling puppies. UPDATE March 2019: Having used the collars everyday for 15 months, I have zero complaints! They have worked flawlessly! No maintenance of any kind. All I have done is charge them. UPDATE OCTOBER 2021 As another reviewer reports, remote can become unstable, meaning the intensity setting fluctuates up & down by itself. I spent $167 to replace remote in Sept. 2019. Now in Oct. 2021 the replacement remote is suffering the same issue. (You can mail the defective remote in for repair, but I cannot be without a working unit.) An irritation for sure, but I still like the product. The two collars themselves are used daily & have worked flawlessly.

2 years Old But still runs like a Champ
It’s been two years since I bought this e-collar, so it’s been put the test both in training, hiking trips, and upland bird hunting. Needless to say it’s stood the test of time. They say it’s water resistant, that’s correct, they say it holds a charge for 4 days, that’s also correct, and if their is any issue the customer service is helpful with troubleshooting. To give you an idea of how often I use it and how much abuse this collar can take. My dog is a 70lbs Bluetick Coonhound who loves to: run into brush, hiking way ahead of me, hunt birds, runs through and into things on occasion, and track. The collar take a licking and keeps on ticking. My dog once smacked it against a tree, which made a huge crack noise. First concern was the dog than I check the collar. Not a scratch on it. The range of stimulation is great 127, the vibration works wonders, the charging abilities are great, and it hugs my dogs neck perfectly so it won’t snag any twigs. After two years the batter life kinda fades, so I may just replace the batteries. Update - 11/21/2019 - I replaced both the collar battery and the remote battery. This fixed the issues of collar/remote losing power fast out in the field. This goes to show that the equipment that Dogtra makes is built to last. I've had the same remote and collar for over 2 years now. My dog puts her collar through all of tests in the field, so this product I would recommend to anyone looking for a great field collar.

Great Item, very powerful , best for large dogs
The device is very solid, easy to use , works great and has a long battery life. Worked miracles after just a week of training my dog changed off leash decision making to "listen to every command all the time". I like it and am keeping it in case I will be using it for a larger dog. However it is extremely powerful and very bulky and heavy , those are my only issues with it . I don't see how it can be used on 35lbs dog, if it is way too big and strong for my 45 lbs husky mix. However still a great training device.

Best training tool ever - professional grade equipment
We have a couple of American Bulldog puppies that are sizing up fast. Something had to be done to get them under control. This is a farm scenario, where these dogs are outside a lot and there to protect livestock, but as puppies will do, they key off each other and start chasing the livestock they're supposed to protect. I've never wanted to employ a "shock" collar, but this situation was going to be dire. Low and behold, this is probably the most humane method of training, especially for a stubborn dog. Started with a cheap set that got us over the idea that it was "mean" and the results were immediate. Unfortunately, after a couple of weeks, they began to ignore those collars (felt a little like putting a 9V battery on your tongue). The Dogtra collars arrived the day after I ordered them, fully charged and ready to go. I tried one of them out on my hand set at 30, and yowser, that'll get your attention but causes no injury. The dial on the remote allows easy changes in amount of correction, and the "Nick" mode is over almost before it started. Two days in with the new collars, and the dogs respond perfectly to the "pager" function, which is a little like vibration mode on your cellphone. It'll interrupt the dog's train of thought so it can hear your command. The beauty of it is, you can train your dog to a sweet sounding command, rather than losing your temper with it and expecting the dog to come running to you. It's not "remote control dog", using it sparingly, and letting the dog commit to the mistake before correction is the key to success. The "High Output" models are for bigger dogs (our Bulldogs are 4-1/2 months old and already weigh 55-60 lbs) and the collars have significant weight. You may want to go to Dogtra's sales site (on Amazon) look at the different types of systems they have and watch the video on how to select. We found that very helpful. All in all, this is probably the best purchase we've made since getting the dogs. One more thing I'd like to add, this system is really high quality. Definitely worth paying extra for.

Adjustable and works
The collar arrived as promised. The collar fits well (lab mix 70 lbs but it looks like it can fit larger and medium dogs). The controls are easy to use. The collar battery lasts about 3 days and the remote lasts much longer. My dog just laughs at the vibrate mode but responds well to the shock. There are 2 buttons for shock- 1/2 second and 1 second. I mostly use the half second to just get his attention. I use the 1 second to make a big correction. I set at 45 inside and 70 outside. Seems to work well. Note you need to turn it back on after charging

NEVER HURT YOU DOG! Love him by using the highest quality training tools and methods - and this device is an excellent tool!
QUALITY! Things of quality are a joy to use long after purchasing. Cheap version of this technology suck because of reliability issues. If you have to use the shock function - to stop your dog from running out in front of a car - the device has to work flawlessly. But you also don't want to accidentally shock your dog by "mistake". The $59 version I first bought had 3- dog collars but I would not trust it to work when the stimulation went simultaneously to all 3- dogs! NO! You don't want to shock 3 dogs to correct bad behavior from one. This one cost 4 times as much and for only one dog but I love the Dogtra equipment. The transmitter is solid, heavy, well designed for the location of buttons. The cheap one I first bought felt too light weight - like an empty paper box. And the procedure to turn on the collars was dumb, frustrating, unreliable. This model has low intensity vibration that is not enough to stop my Russian Wolfhound when running at 35 MPH to kill the neighbors cat. So I give a couple of vibrates - then a low intensity shock. If that isn't enough this transmitter has a nice "volume control" like knob to increase shock level - with an display screen to tell you the setting. That way I know 15 just barely tweaks the dog, but 25 really gets his attention. SHOCK COLLARS, IN MY OPINION, SHOULD NOT BE SOLD TO THE PUBLIC UNLESS THE PERSON IS CERTIFIED AS A COMPETENT DOG TRAINER. Idiots, such as my neighbor, could not be bothered to train his un-neutered German Shorthaired Pointer. They are a hyper breed to start with and require professional level training. Idiot neighbor took his dog hunting with a friend and his dog spent all it's time mounting the other guy's dog. Bad day. So idiot who will not read a dog training book, or ever watch the excellent video that came with his shock collar. When he shocked his German Shorthaired Pointer it was not to train it but to punish it because he was frustrated and angry. That poor dog, Shooter, howled and ran under the pickup truck and would not come out all day. Idiot neighbor was upset that he hurt his dog - but this is a typical misuse of a training device. PLEASE READ ABOUT HOW TO USE THESE DEVICES! Back to my Russian Wolfhound! He will fearlessly take on a coyote alone and drive the predator mad with the speed and agility of this breed. Nothing can catch a wolfhound unless it wants to be caught. Fun. Big fun night time chase coyotes to teach them to clear out of our neighborhood - my sheep ranch. BUT! Said wolfhound loves to herd sheep at stampede speeds that endanger the newborns, etc. One of my adult ewes was killed by a wolfhound. Now that is where I train - aversion training - not to chase the sheep. Yell - "HEY! No chase sheep!" - if the dog does not stop then give it the lowest shock level to get the dog's attention. DO NOT HURT THE DOG BECAUSE YOU ARE ANGRY! Just use enough energy to get across the idea that this is unwanted behavior. NEVER USE A SHOCK COLLAR WITHOUT FIRST TESTING IT ON YOURSELF! What is wrong with people? Lay the device on your forearm. The contacts are touching your skin. Try the lowest level - feel anything? Increase one level until you feel the tingling. It is not a hurtful, scary shock. It feels like tingles. Yet that is enough to make some dogs cry out in a yelp. Put is on the dog. At the lowest level of stimulation look for an eye blink, an ear twitch, etc. They feel it but it is only scary to a dog because they don't know what it is, or how to stop it. Anyone who will not test the shock first on their arm should never own an E-collar. Dogs are an endless source of positivity, joy, fun, and the most loyal companion you can have. I own a German Shepherd Service Dog who shops Costco with me every week and has not worn a leash in 5 years - shopping. When I used an e-collar on him he hated it so much he told me "Please don't use this thing. I will always come when you call me, I will not chase cats, I promise - just don't use this on me again." And he kept his word. Use vibrate! Give the dog time to think about the vibrate as you call in your happy voice - "(dog's name) Come! Come here!" and if they don't then and only then give a light level of shock. The second your dog start to come towards you praise the dog in your happy voice -"Yes! Good boy! Yes! Come! Oh, good boy!" And give a warm pat & pet when they are by your side. This is a training device - not a punishment tool when you get frustrated and angry. Do that and your relationship with that dog will really go to hell. Don't do it. Dogs depend on us to understand how to live in our world. Help them learn. Never hurt them. Love...I have 5 big working dogs that love me as much as I love them.
