Be careful when opening
Daniel Smith is a beautiful and vibrant watercolor paint and I enjoy painting with it. However, almost every time I open a tube, the paint oozes out like a volcano. Now granted, the paint is never wasted because it can be put in a pan or empty reservoir and used over and over until it's gone. It's just that I don't want to always be trying to save the paint as soon as I open the top. I have to try and catch it as soon as I get the top off and be ready to put the paint somewhere. I don't know why the paint comes out like this but it usually happens with the smaller 5ml tubes and not so much with the larger tubes. I mean, I appreciate that the tubes are full of paint but isn't there any control at the manufacturing company? Only so much paint can fit into a container.Just know that if you buy these small tubes, be ready to catch the paint when you take off the top. Have a reservoir ready. If you've never painted with Daniel Smith paints before you are in for a surprise. They are awesome paints.

Amazing color but keep in mind it isn't the greatest ...
Amazing color but keep in mind it isn't the greatest lightfastness rating. For about 2 dollars more you can get the full size tube of this (see photo comparing small size to full size). I accidentally ordered this small size. IG: elin_winblad

Absolutely beautiful standalone and great for mixing
Im an independent artist and over the years Ive collected and used many brands of watercolors, reviewed and compared them, and for years my favorite favorite favorite watercolors out of all of them have been M. Graham & co. watercolor paints.I always avoided Daniel Smith because the price is really steep, but with all the money Ive ever spent on all the other brands I own I could've built a really nice collection of Daniel Smith paints by now if I knew how great they really were.As of now, I own the Quinacridone Coral, Green Gold, Moonglow, and Primatek 6 pack (Rhodonite Genuine, Amethyst Genuine, Mayan Blue Genuine, Jadeite Genuine, Hematite Genuine, and Piemontite Genuine) I bought to use along side with and in the same palettes as my M Grahams. The way they dry down throws me off because the m grahams dont (they have honey and stay pretty moist) but they rewet easily, mix wonderfully with eachother and my m grahams, and I honestly would love to add more Daniel Smith colors to my collection to build a Daniel Smith specific pallette.

Cobalt violet
I love Daniel Smith's watercolors but I am not sure about this Cobal Violet. The consistency is very similar to children's finger painting paint. It doesn't bloom easily in water when you mix with it. Interaction with water is somewhat different and that makes me think this is not easy to use.

Moonglow is brilliant
Moonglow is a brilliant mix of 3 pigments that creates a wonderful watercolor paint that can add a dramatic quality to any painting. Definitely something to be added to ones palette if you like darker colors.

Mouth-Watering Pink
Opera Pink is an absolutely gorgeous color. When I use it, it's so delicious-looking, I want to lick it off my palette. I don't. But I want to. That's how pretty it is.

Best USA brand, if not worldwide
Daniel Smith is the best. It's made in America and top quality. Unbelievable pigments sourced from minerals, mostly, from the US. They cost more because they are top quality PIGMENTS, not dyes (that fade, dont perform as well, and glaze poorly) so this is what you get if you or someone you know is taking art seriously. These blend well with other colors, create great shadows, warm up, or cool down a color. Just blown away and very proud of this company. Asian watercolors are for Eastern "papers" & Western watercolor companies perform their best on 100% pure cotton paper, so all of this gets expensive VERY quicky! The tubes are small (most are) with watercolors because you're just staining/glazing the paper. If you're just starting out, get the Cotman field kit (Windsor & Newton) and then these if you're down for the challenge...and this will take YEARS! Most people are "beginners even @ 3 years of working with watercolors. Daniel Smith is one of the newer companies out there and I hope they have the staying power that some of the older companies do because I plan on investing (this will take time) on using this company's watercolor paints exclusively. Yep. That good. Thank you to all the people at this company for making such a high quality, beautiful selections, and original colors. This is the stuff of American dreams.

This Naples Yellow is a soft warm yellow that is reminiscent of wheat or sunflowers.
Daniel Smith is one of my favorite brands of Watercolors! This Naples Yellow is a soft warm yellow that is reminiscent of wheat or sunflowers. This shade definitely makes me think of summer. This Naples Yellow has an excellent light fast rating, is semi-transparent and non staining and non granulating watercolor. These tubes are very good value for money, and the pigments are highly concentrated. I use them to refill pans and after setting they always re-wet easily. Daniel Smith offer some unusual and unique pigments, particularly the primatek range - lunar black is wondeful. I also love the distinctive blends of Undersea Green, Moonglow and Hematite Genuine which provide some unique characteristics useful for texture and atmospheric techniques.

Tiny tube of excellent paint
Daniel Smith paints are made in States, so are quite expensive here. But they are made from the minerals without a lot of additives, and so are both very intense (a little goes a long way) and have a very pleasing texture. Similar in quality to Schmincke but a greater range of colours available. This one is very bright, so I only wanted the small tube. For colour you intend to use more of, get the 15ml tube-this one v tiny.

Too granulated
This is so granulated that it mixes into muddy patches. I guess some people like that. It's the same blue colour sold with the red/yellow/blue primary colour set so I wrongly assumed I could use it to mix greens and purples.

Significantly overpriced
The amount of paint is tiny, 5ml. There are other sites that sell this paint for a much more reasonable price. The company also charges 30% of the item price as a return fee.

Quality
Fantastic paint, highly pigmented and vibrant. A little goes a long way so although it seems expensive when compared to some other brands this paint will probably last longer than many cheaper equivalents. I was unsure of paying so much for a small tube of paint but I am glad I took the chance. I love it! If you like this colour I totally recommend you try it- you will not be disappointed!
