Your kid will love this book!
I read this book to my 1st grade class because it was a part of Washington's Children's Choice book awards. They loved it so much, I brought it home to read to my five year old son. HE loved it so much, we bought our own copy. The only strange thing is, the copy we received is a bit off...it's almost as if it was slightly changed for British readers. For example, Awesome was changed to Brillant...Dumb was changed to Daft. I kinda like it, but it's not something I would have noticed at all if I hadn't read a different version at my school. Bottom line, fun story, awesome message, and brilliant illustrations (see what I did there?)!

Hilarious
I LOVED this book. It's a proper laugh out loud page turner. The illustrations are simply a joy, they made me laugh out loud too. It's about a little dog who has "one of those" owners, she dresses him in a big pink bow, gives him heart shaped doggy treats, pops him in her handbag, and worst of all, calls him Choochie pooh. The expressions on the dogs face is a sight to behold. Later in the book, the little dog plays with other, larger dogs and has a fabulous time, until his owner shouts...."off we go, oopsie boopsie choochie pooh!" The little dog apparently wanted to jump into a pit of crocodiles! He was waiting to be made fun of, but then the larger dogs owners called their dogs ridiculous names too, my favourite was "let's go hunky punky pumpkin bottom!" So the little dog didn't feel half as bad, and after that, they all played together regularly. Obviously having silly owners helped them bond. It's a great book, but i think aimed at 5-7 year olds, the humour would be lost on a three or four year old. Also, it may give the younger reader an appreciation of Picasso when they get older, as the dogs tend to have both eyes on one side of their heads! (See my photos). HilariousThank you to walker books for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review

Loved So Much That I Bought Another Copy For My Son's School
My review is for the Paperback format which I felt I needed to mention as at the time of writing this review, this book is available in two different formats; Paperback or Hardcover on the same product page.I have bought a copy of this book from Amazon so that I can give it to my son's school for the children in his class to read at story time as I actually received an ARC (Advance Reading Copy) from the publisher first which my children and I love so much (new bedtime favourite story) that I wanted my sons school friends to enjoy the story too - definitely one of my best children's book purchases so far this year. This is a large sized children's book which measures approx 27cm wide by 24cm long. The book is about a small dog who's owner basically embarrasses him everywhere he goes with her by calling him "Choochie Pooh" and other embarrassing names such as "Ickle Pickle Woof Woof" in front of the other bigger dogs. He is fed up of it and despite giving her his dirtiest glares she just doesn't get the message. He just wants to be treated the same as the big dogs and get to be an ordinary puddle jumping, stick chasing dog and not stuffed into her handbag and carried around! Thankfully he meets some other bigger dogs who accept him into their gang and play with him but at home time there is an amusing revelation....The book is so funny and has had both of my children laughing and asking for it to be read to them over and over again since it arrived and I'll be honest that I think the book is wonderful too and if I could award more than 5 stars to it then I wouldn't hesitate to. I have read a couple of the authors books (Hoot Owl and A Brave Bear) but this one is without a doubt mine and my children's favourite. At first I was a bit confused with the title and I thought it had the pronunciation choo as in choo choo train but then I realised it actually meant koochie but had been spelt differently to how I personally would have spelt it.The book is absolutely hysterical and just pure genius as it has so many affiliations with real life and how a lot of us pet owners do actually treat our little animal members of our family. Although we are a cat family, the dog references later in the story such as the game "Dogs and Sausages" are very easy to associate with and had me laughing along with my children. The pages have full paged illustrations on them and are beautifully done with lots of bright colours and detail. I love how the illustrator has even given the little dog pink cheeks to show he is embarrassed and his little angry face is beyond cute and ultimately believable.Without a doubt this is our favourite children's book so far this year and it is set to be a class favourite too. I don't often make personal recommendations when writing reviews but I am happy to recommend this book for anyone with young children as it is just fantastically funny.

This is a fun story for little ones. Good pictures. Big print so the words are recognisable and all in all a good read. My grandaughter favourite book at the moment.
