Excellent for money
Yes this reel is heavy but if you are river fishing or fishing in a live bait scenario this reel will be perfect. It casts long and has an awesome drag for the money. The line it comes spooled with has a bit of memory to it but will function. I have bought two of these reels and have caught quite a few catfish this far. No tangles. No down time fixing reel issues. Just fishing!

Quality at Zebco is improving.
Old Zebcos could last a lifetime. Then they all went to HE double hockey sticks. I had to abandon the brand for about 20 years. I had brand new reels not last more than a few trips. I still have my 1984 Zebco 33 and it still works great. Someone gave me a rod and I wanted to make a kid's rig, so I took a flyer on this reel. I've got to admit that Zebco seems to have stepped it up since I last tried them. It has seen some rough kid use for the last 5 months or so and it's still working well. This is salt water. Will it last like the 1984 model? Not likely, but we'll see. It is certainly better than the garbage they were selling in 2005. I think they're headed in the right direction.
